The fossil fuel industry is funding people to spread disinformation, the tried and true Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt strategy that has worked wll for decades to slow the transition to green solutions. This was pioneered by the sugar industry and used later by the tobacco industry.

Well, it didn't help that some of the first EVs (think Nissan Leaf) did have some pretty terrible battery degradation issues.
