is there adhesive or something he is warming up? wouldn't this need to be replaced to maintain water proofing? thanks

There’s adhesive on the whole back of the emblem, though only about 10% has anything to stick to. Mostly around the edges for weatherproofing.
The new emblem comes with new adhesive.

It has nothing to do with weatherproofing lol. It's literally just additional security to keep emblem from coming off since it doesn't bolt to the tailgate
