Stock tires or non directional tires should go front tires to the rears on the same side, cross the rear tires to the front. If you have directional tires, it should be front to back, back to front, on the same side with no crossing.
That being said, I've always done the front to back on the same side for years and always had good overall tire wear. Keeping your tires inflated accordingly is more important imo.
