Question for anyone who's mounted wider tires requiring trimming the air dam: can anyone point me to a source that illustrates tools/ best practices? Are people also rolling the metal lip just above the plastic air dam? Tips on doing this without any paint damage? How about rear? I never hear of clearance issues in the back. Anyone rubbed out back? If so, where?
I'm still debating tire size for my Flash. I'm only considering sub 50lb tires that are fairly quiet. Honestly more of a cosmetic upgrade, but some offroad/sand benefits would be welcome when I'm camping.
One I'm looking at is the 305/55-20 Nitto Grappler G3. Lightweight, reasonably smooth AT tire. 10% wider, but very close to same overall diameter.
Ideal wheel offset for this tire to 'fit' is probably 25 to 30mm on a 20x9.5. My current wheels are 20x9.5 with 6mm offset, so I'm positive I'd need to trim the air dam for these wider tires. For what its worth, I believe I'd need to trim the air dam even for 275/65-20s on these 6mm wheels. Its just too close already with stock size tires mounted.
I'm running a 3/4" front level. Could go up to 2" level, but kind of prefer not to, since I'll likely keep using stock sized Blizzaks and also have the rear 1.5" drop installed.
Thanks for your advice on modifications for clearance.
