I had been hearing about the recent update to the Lightning charge curve and wanted to check it out myself. I have trouble figuring out which software version I have let alone having any clue on how to look back at previous updates. So... If you want to know which update brought this goodness to the truck, I will refer you to Tom Moloughney and his State of Charge Youtube Channel. Even if you aren't interested in this topic, Tom has a great channel.
I stopped by a local supercharger in Vegas today just to see if I have the update. I turns out I do.
If you are interested....
- SOC for the start was 46%
- Immediately ramped up to 179 kW
- at 47% 181 kW
- at 49% 184 kW
- at 50% 186 kW
- at 54% 189 kW. This was 5 minutes into the charging session
- it then started the walk down and was at 179 about 40 seconds later
- I got 15.5 kWh in 5:40. I then stopped the session to charge at home since I have solar and don't need to pay for my electrons when not on a road trip. ;-)
It this life-altering? No. Tom says it shaves about 5 minutes off of a 10-80% charge session. I am always happy with better charging, so I take this as the win that it is.
