I think he knows how it works and he knows me. When I found out about the all electric Lightning I went to my dealer to order one. I wanted to get on the list so I could order as soon as possible. If my salesman didn't understand the process and is the top salesman in the dealership then something is wrong. At least I brought it to their attention of the internet reservation out there and maybe I went to late to the dealer. I would think a dealer that had a customer with a long history of buying Fords from their dealership (and having them repaired) would have a good chance at driving the best Ford ever built. I have another interest in gas and electric cars and I have hypermiling hobbies to go as far as possible on gas or electric battery power. I want to see how far I can drive on a single battery charge in the Lightning. I have doubled EPA estimates in competition and my '13 C Max Energi only had a lifetime MPG of 912mpg when I sold it. I only used the free tank of gas from when I purchased the Energi. I sold the car to my brother with only 500 miles on the engine and he still drives it today. I went 15,000 miles on one tank of gas lol. I want to break 1000 miles on a single charge of the F-150 to show what is possible and still drive with the flow of traffic. I think I have as good a chance of anyone to get a 2022 Ford Lighting.
Nope. No offense, but you are setting yourself up for disappointment convincing yourself that your salesman can somehow change Ford's rules because you are special.

It's not up to your dealer. Mach e ordering has a defined process established by Ford.

There is no way to order a Lightning without having an existing reservation, which you don't have. Reservations can only be made through Ford, not a dealer.

It's not up to your dealer. Mach e ordering has a defined process established by Ford.

I'm working with my dealership to purchase the Lightning who sells the unit where I buy all my Fords. I think the reservation process was to determine the demand but at the end the dealers sell the car. I went to my dealer early and as soon as I found out and that's all I've done in the past. I may not be as lucky this time but I'm trying and that's all I can do.

You will believe what you want to believe, but Ford requires a reservation to order. Dealers don't have the ability to place an order for you until Ford invites you to place an order. The ordering process is different for the Lightning than it was for any other vehicle you purchased from your dealer. Ford has been pretty clear about the reservation and order process.

Ford will never invite you to place an order because you aren't even in line to order unless you have a current reservation. You either didn't read about how the reservations and ordering work for the Lightning, or for some reason you think Ford is lying and your dealer has some sort of loophole for you.

Eventually Ford will open up orders to the general public without reservations, but that is likely to be far in the future after working their way through most of the preorders.

You won't know unless we try. Ford says the EPA test were with a 1000lb load and it may go 460 miles without it. I've doubled the EPA EV range in all my Ford hybrids so far like gasoline engines. I hold the record in the FEH and doubled the EPA in competition for 1st place in Madison WI with 61.3mpg in town in the 27 mile course. I developed driving techniques with Wayne Gerdes the best Hypermiler in the World IMO. Ford engineers thought I was modifying the FEH and had pictures taken of my car's engine compartment and electric motor according to my dealer's hybrid tech. It all has to do with knowing how things work and eliminate the energy use as much as possible. I practice running out of gas and making it to the gas station in the battery limp home mode even lol. The Lightning has far better potential to increase EV distance because it's a 4x4, heavy and not as aerodynamic as most cars. Wayne drives new Ford trucks also cross Country to see what they're capable of for articles on hypermiling. I don't drive in competition anymore but I know how still.

Pretty unethical approach if a dealer actually does this. I hope anyone being extorted by a dealership in this manner makes a move to another dealership, thereby removing the ability of the dealership to use the reservation for someone that showed up late to the game and are willing to pay their way in front of others. There are way too many greedy people in this world.

Although this is certainly possible, it seems unlikely a dealer would plan for this strategy because the original customer might just agree to pay the market adjustment and keep the truck. Then the dealer would still not have a truck for the poster above and have to go back on their word to him.

It's also probably not the dealer's plan since they apparently told him they would contact him in January to work out his order. It sounds like the dealer told him they would actually be able to place a build order for him soon, which does not seem possible based on info from Ford.

There are various examples of dealers sending out emails to Reservation holders telling them to get on board with Market Adjustment or lose their place. If another person agrees to pay the Markey Adjustment, the dealer figures the OP doesn't know any better and will probably tell him he is on the waiting list.....which started January 2022........

As far as dealers being "Unethical"....... yeah I think we all know this by now, not all, but there are a lot who are. ....

I see what you are saying... But what are the odds somebody else orders the exact configuration this guy wants and then passes on it? Seems like an odd strategy for the dealer. The dealer could easily tell the guy he gets first dibs on their first orphaned truck, but that's not the case. The dealer actually told him he could order one.

Even if everyone at that dealer drops out due to market adjustment, they still can't allow someone else to order. If the reservation holders at that dealership choose not to submit an order due to market adjustment, then Ford would send out more invites to the next people on the reservation list when the next wave of order invites go out. Ford simply moves down their list until they have enough orders to complete production for the year. Once that happens, they will stop sending order invites. The reservations don't entitle the dealer to a certain number of orders. If people pass when it's their turn, the dealer cannot give someone else their spot in line. The online reservation and order invite system just doesn't work that way.

Did you already picked out a color for your truck that you are already coming spring? In your hyper miling efforts, does color play any effect on mileage (thinking some colors are better at reflecting heat and affecting battery performance).

I agree with you, maybe the OP doesn’t really care as long as it’s a Lightning so he can get 1000 miles off a charge. Who knows….

I'm sure my dealer and salesman are waiting to sell more vehicles to good paying customers. They know I will walk and do business elsewhere with my money like everyone else, but they know I'm a solid buyer from experience and they would lose a good customer if they didn't try to order me one. I always have the option because I am the buyer if I like the deal. If it doesn't work out I'll look at my options and move on. I wasn't looking to buy a truck, I was looking to see what's available when I saw the Lightning was coming out. It's one hell of a truck and I'd love to get one like everyone else here. My dealer has always come though before on the best deals, so I still have a chance they will do it again. Ford needs good dealers to sell their cars not cutthroats to make a fast buck.

You will get a truck, but it will be after all the reservation holders get theirs or when Ford opens up the general order banks. Until then sit back and wait. Hope for 2025 truck.
