Just a few quick thoughts, responding to various posts:

- I personally would've delayed my purchase if I had to pick the Lariat or Platinum trim. I am getting this vehicle to do truck stuff, I'd feel less comfortable doing that in a $80k vehicle.
- I also look at all the cars out there for $80k, I am not enough of a truck guy to be swayed away from those luxury vehicles in that price range.
- XLT seems like great value for the money, Pro even better! These two trims were must buys in my opinion, I'm very happy to get a XLT.
- Luxury and value are subjective. Most everyone who's taken a delivery of a Lariat or Platinim loves it! Though personal preference comes through here.
- In my limited time in the Lightning, I felt the regen may be too low. This is opposite of OP impressions saying Lightning is too much, I think this is just something first time EV buyers need to get used to.
- The truck is going to feel huge to me when I get it, just like it feels when I borrow my family trucks, because I don't drive them every day. A month after ownership, i won't even notice it.

It's crazy how after a handful of drives, you pull into parking spots like a pro, the 360 degree cameras make it even better.

OP what dealer and color of truck? Have you checked what they have it listed at?

@FordLightningMan I respect your position but I do some light truck stuff, hauling large things, tailgatin (number 1 priority) and commuter. That's why I want the blend of function and luxury. I passed on the Platinum because I thought it was excessive and have no interest in massaging chairs. I thought the Lariat is excellent luxury and function. I also plan on taking 1100 mile road trips between my NJ and FL homes. So again, comfort for those long rides is paramount.

I do agree the value on the pro and a lower end XLT (XLT runs up quick), is a really compelling price point.

I’ll believe this posters “story” when he finally remembers the name of the dealer he dumped his custom ordered truck on.

I would even make the dealer an offer of 80% MRSP for this now “used” truck with some hard test drives on it and as the poster stated some serious handling / driving faults. ;)

I would have purchased an XLT if Ford have broken down individual options. But they didn't do it that way because they knew that everyone would have opted for the XLT.

To the OP I owe apologies as I was the first to bring up size as a reason to decline. He has since made it clear, to me anyway, that this was not his main or only reason.

I have to say that the interior treatments in an $80k truck are not the same as an $80 luxury car. It's disappointing, but true. Trucks are ridiculously expensive these days and can be very well appointed and comfortable, for a truck. Still don't compare to other luxury vehicles.

Compare a Lightning Platinum to the BMW iX xrdive50. Same price point, basically. Both are EVs. Looks aside for the BMW grill, I think the BMW is way better appointed and looks like a luxury vehicle should on the inside, IMHO. Its not a truck, but if you don't NEED a truck and just want luxury, the BMW would be a better choice.

Platinum, Limited and King Ranch are all very nice trucks. But they still have some hard finishes that don't warrant the price tag.

Sorry, I'm rambling and probably don't make any sense to anyone but me 🤷‍♂️ :ROFLMAO:

Thanks for the honest feedback. Coincidentally, I'll be going from an XC90 to the Lariat ER myself. I had an ICE Lariat a few years ago and loved it, except for the lack of enclosed trunk and gas mileage.

To really put that dollar into perspective, $86k in 1986 translates to $227k today, and I'd wager you could sell it for at least twice that if not more today.
I understand the inflation and that was not my point. My point was that $80K is a heck of a lot of money as illustrated by the cost of my first new home, and I never dreamed of spending that amount of money on a car or truck.

I'm guessing this is sarcasm? The dealer is probably thrilled to have this order abandoned.

Going from a late model Volvo (XC90 or V90) to the Lariat will be somewhat of a challenge if one expects to have Volvo level finishes in the Ford truck. With my 19 Suburban LT, I set my expectations for the particular vehicle itself and did not try to compare it to a Volvo or any other luxury or near luxury brand. I plan to do the same with the F150 Lightning. Having owned a 2004 F150 SCREW, I am familiar with its size and size limitations, and at least on paper made sure it checked all the boxes before I sold my Suburban and ordered the Lightning. The true test is when it comes into the dealer and you can experience the actual vehicle.

OP has evaluated his truck and there are things he is not happy about. It is his right and his sole decision. The information that he provided will help us newbie EV drivers - and for me, I will leave my truck in Eco mode and drive gingerly in order to maximize range.

It is the OP's right to reject the Truck, and I can somewhat agree with him. Now if he could just let us know the dealer and color......it's like the 10th time this has been asked. Someone here can probably pick it up from the dealer TODAY.

You want forum members to interpret your opinion based on what you drive?

You own small SUVs. Why would you want a full-size truck?

The front end and grill look very cheap. What has changed since it debuted and were able to reserve it?

The wheels look terrible. What has changed in the wheels since it debuted? I'd just buy new ones.

Hate Sport mode. Any Sport mode I've ever driven there is noticeable deceleration when I lift my foot from acceleration. I would only assume there is more because of regen.

Personal preference is that a full-size truck is way too big. When was it going to be any smaller than an ICE F-150?

If I were not interested in a full-size truck before this I don't think the Lightning would have swayed me to go so far as reserving one, ordering one, and then being let down by the looks and one driving mode. Considering my last full-size truck I bought brand new in 2008 was $50k, the Lightning, as you say you optioned it, is definitely worth more than the $50k you suggest it should be valued at today. Maybe an EV Ranger will be better based on the two SUVs you own.

I think the OP might like the Rivian R1S better.
