My 22 Lariat SR still has the old UI which leads me to believe I am running a version near 3.5.3. I have owned this truck (first owner) for 5 weeks and I have yet to receive an update. I have taken the truck to the dealer twice for them to push updates that I am not receiving. Each time they said they corrected what was blocking the updates and that I should be getting them over the next few days. Over those next few days I have driven non-stop for over an hour each day, and still no updates available. A generous forum member ran a remote scan using FDRS and I see I have downloads pending (picture attached). But for whatever reason they are not making it to my truck. I understand 12v issues to install the updates, but I not even that far yet. The updates arent downloading to my truck.

My dealership (major dealership in the Maryland, DC, VA area) tells me they can't manually install updates (BS!) and I just need to wait to receive them OTA. From what I read, once I get one update, they all should start coming. My understanding is I just need the dealer to manually get me up to current but I have lost faith in them. Other than going to another dealership, what should I specifically tell them they need to do or what can I do to have these updates download?

I appreciate any guidance you may have.
Jim

Was your truck a demo / mannequin? Are you able to turn automatic updates on, and set a schedule for applying updates that require the truck to not move for a period of time?

That's the key test. Many mannequins / demos couldn't turn those on.

Next - try and join Early Access. https://www.earlyaccess.ford.com/

It is not unusual to not get an update for a period of time after purchase, IF an update was available. Just because you have modules that have updates, does not mean that Ford has queued up an OTA update for your truck.

I bought my 2022 on 5/12. There WAS an OTA update queued up since end of March, never happened because they don't update unsold trucks. I required my dealer to update everything pre-delivery as a condition of sale (very unusual, took an entire day). I got an OTA update on 6/18.

I have had the same problem on a mannequin purchased on April 13th 2023. I had Ford turn off the Telematics per the instructions on this website and are still unable to receive OTA updates. Called Ford and have a case number assigned about 6 weeks ago but I'm still at the old User Interface level with out updates. Currently working with the dealer and Ford per an escalated request.

My other 2022 Lightning is a Lariat ER and is fine with OTA updates (at the moment). I know Ford has the ability to fix this issue. One vehicle was built on April 21, 2022 (mannequin) and the other was built on May 14, 2022 24 days later. Both vehicles show they are seven updates behind on modules.

FYI - I have been a member of the EAP for months…...

Ford approved having the dealer install all updates this morning and the Platinum is back at the dealer this morning!

So the dealer had to make a case to Ford to be able to manually install your update?

No, he made a case with Ford, and Ford told the dealer they'd pay for the time to install the updates.

Just to clarify again:

If you go in FDRS and see 13 modules that COULD be updated, that doesn't mean:

- that you are "behind" in OTA updates
- that there are 13 OTA updates you could get
- that you should even get all those updates, because some may in fact make things worse.

When I bought my mannequin in May, and they updated the modules, the list of updates they did was so long that FDRS showed "overflow error" instead of the list of updates. :D

Exactly - Contact Ford (EV Support group and Ford Social Media Team) to have the case number assigned and then provide your dealer the same info including a case number.

I've gotten one OTA in 6 months of ownership. Took to first dealer and they wanted the truck for a week and a half. No thanks. Second dealer tried and failed "due to bad wifi". Bottom line, if you want any reliable updates at all, buy the Mongoose, and a FDRS license and do them yourself.
I consider it as a maintenance cost.

Jsfrye, It may seem like a silly question, but did you verify your modem is working? OTA requires the modem and it isn't uncommon for it to get hung up killing all future updates until it is fixed. I would expect your dealer to have checked that but did you verify? Try connecting the truck to a local WIFI. If it won't see local networks, that could be the issue with OTA updates. I had to pull fuse 32 twice in the past to "hard restart" the modem after an update failed. In some cases, the dealers have replaced modems that wouldn't restart.

Good question. I believe my modem to be working. I am connected to my home wifi, and Ford OTA support has told me they see it.
