want to change my paint color - how late can you wait to make a change?

My truck goes into production in a few weeks but I want to change the paint color. How many days before it’s built can you edit order?

I believe as long as your truck has not been issued a window sticker you still have time, the next batch of window stickers will be generated 8/9 or 8/10, but the crucial date is 8/7 or 8/8 when the factory screens all the open orders to decide which trucks will be built starting the week of 8/21 to 8/27. If you are in that time frame, then get with your salesman Monday morning to see if it's still possible to amend the body color

It may be once a VIN is assigned that changes can no longer be made, but I suspect the window sticker is issued at about the same time, so it's essentially the same.

Our dealership messed up our order and change the colour. We wanted Antimatter Blue and they put it in as Agate Black. We missed this on the confirmation because the paint and fabric colours are together on the production printout. The sales contract had it correctly. In this day and age, I don't know why two different systems that can't talk to each other are used. The sales system should have a flow-through interface with the production system, but instead the details must be copied manually.

Since the VIN had been issued, it couldn't be changed.

In the end, it turns out the two colours practically look the same - they only look different in bright sunlight when the vehicle is clean. The dealership gave us free window tinting for the mistake.

My perception of timing of what could be changed comes from early when there were lot's of weeks (months) between initial assignment of a build [WEEK] vs conversion to a build [DAY]. Irecall many folks getting reassigned to later weeks back while the factory was trying to optimize the flow of builds because of late arriving resources/parts from suppliers.

Now that the resources appear to be coming in more consistently, and ordering to factory acceptance to scheduling by the week & day is tighter the window of opportunity to make last minutes changes is shorter.

BTW, YELLOW trucking went into Chapter 11 just now, they are winding down operations to a controlled liquidation, I hope FoMoCo or it's primary suppliers are not customers of Yellow, or we might see more delays in the coming weeks/months as the trucking industry tries to take up the slack caused by their dissolution.
