I have a '23 Pro ER with Max Tow (no tow tech). It came from the factory with the trailer brake control module installed under the dash. I purchased the proper dash controller switch that fits where the coin slot goes and installed it. I have gone into forscan and turned on every single trailer brake module that i could find. However i only did it where you can change it from "disabled" to "enabled". I do not know the values to change for the "AS BUILT Format". Im still going through livinitup's spreadsheet to figure it out, but if anyone has any insight that would be greatly appreciated.

I am thinking that the black box under the dash is a ‘dummy’ connector. This is what I did to get the brake controller working and posted on another thread.

This worked for this truck, may be different for your truck options, proceed at your own risk.

Ford part number ML3 Z*19H332*F $230 which included both the black module under the dash and a the switch controller that replaced the coin holder. Everything plugged in without wiring modifications.

I did the same, but you only bought half the controller. Ford sells the kit through their accessory store. LINK.

I bought and installed the kit last December and was able to activate it through Forscan. I don’t remember the exact switches I flipped, but they were all in the instrument cluster module. The ones I found in the trailer brake menu were all enabled, so I just needed to tell the IPC that it could talk to the brake controller.

No, it’s not a dummy connector. I pulled up the wiring diagrams, and the trailer lighting circuits go through that box. Unplug the box and you’ll get an error code and stuff that doesn’t work. I don’t know all that’s different with the IBC-capable module, but it’s needed for the switch to work.

I appreciate it. That was what I was afraid I’d have to do. It’s a rather dumb situation if you ask me. Thanks again.

Does your controller keep the gain setting after you disconnect. Mine (2022 Lariat, tow package) seems to forget I set it to 5 last tow. I seem to have to reset every trailer reconnection.

Mine does, and I think it's tied to the trailer I have selected at the time from the towing menu.

Thanks I only have one trailer profile loaded. But it doesn’t come back when selected.
