I realize that there are a lot of issues when it comes to the tech in the cars. But I think we don't realize just how many test cases there are, even for the happy path. Even to say "Yes, the FM Radio Tuner works" you have to test the FM Radio Tuner against every model you're developing for. Further, you have to test it against every possible configuration of that model. Even if we just look at the lightning, we think of it as one, but there's 4 different packages, which are each split in to sub packages, and then even some of those have additional options. At best the FM Radio Tuner has to be tested against 8 different things that all call themselves an F150 Lightning. Now many of us had our bed scales deleted. Can you tell me with 100% confidence that the bed scales have no impact to the FM Radio Tuner? Well, you can't because they all come back to the SYNC system, so now you have to test the FM Radio Tuner for 16 things (the 8 packages, each with or without bed scales). Oh tow tech? that's actually 2 more features wrapped up in one so double again the test cases for each of those features. 64 test cases just for the Lightning line. Doubling again for every module difference they make between each year since we're supporting older vehicles with OTAs. Now multiply that against every possible combination of every feature set of every other vehicle that uses SYNC. Honestly, it's no surprise there's so many test cases that slip through the cracks.
