  1. Ford Charge Station Pro - Newb Question

I was trying illustrate one's options with the FCSP. 6/2 wire for 50A Breaker>>derated to 40A continous. 4/2 wire for up to 80A>>64A continuous. 3/2 for 100A>>80A Continuous. Perhaps my original post was not clear, though I think it was. The derating thing gets confusing, especially since...
  2. Ford Charge Station Pro - Newb Question

If you run 4-2, you can step up to an 80A breaker, and then derate the FCSP to 64A. I would not sell the Ford -- as much as some folks have had trouble, most people get the kinks worked out. Is there a reason you don't want the full 80A? Afraid you would overload your main panel? I cannot...
  3. Trouble w/ 20" Lariat rims getting out of balance in snow/mud/ice

In the meantime, we decided to switch to the 64H heavy duty standard 18" rims from a regular F150. There are other discussions about rims. All F150 rims from around 2005 will *fit* a lighting but not all are classified as strong enough to carry a Lightning and its potential payload. Here is a...
  4. Ice, not ICE; not nice.

I will say -- we are all early adopters and we will suffer the consequences on occasion. ICE vehicles, especially top dollar ones, have had 100 years or so to get every detail right. We are spoiled. All that waste heat from the ICE engine has been kind of taken for granted. Of course, it was...
  5. 'MORE' 240v power than you thought .... SUCCESS!

Be very careful with "circuit combiners" that take two 120v outlets on opposite sides of the system and combine them to get 240v. Why? Because the neutral is being shared, and should one of the two 120v plugs get unplugged while there is a load on the 240v, the neutral on the unplugged 120v...
  6. Driving in snow?

I drove the farm Lighting in the snow the last few days. My brother has been complaining about the tires (stock, 20" on an August Lariat build (Yoko?)). Also complaining about snow buildup and balance issues. We were snowed in, in western KS. Only about 6 inches of snow, but -20 temps and a...
  7. Trouble w/ 20" Lariat rims getting out of balance in snow/mud/ice

Anyone else experience this? My families Lightning is getting a proper western KS farm welcome. Which is to say, its being driven on dirt/gravel/rock roads that serve up a mixture of mud/ice/snow/dust at varying intervals..... My brother reports that he's having to hit the insides of the rims...
  8. Ford Dealer Charging Stations

Dealer in Manhattan KS was smart enough to put the DCFC in a location is 24 hour accessible. It topped out at 60 kw / hr charge rate, but it got me the extra 30 kwh I needed to make a 280 mile trip. Was most certainly NOT free. Some sort of $10 to plug in, and then only $0.25 per kwh...
  9. Frunk E-bike?

Costco has this Jetson (?? copy of Jaison) for like $499 instore. https://www.costco.com/jetson-haze-electric-bike.product.4000025081.html I think it would fit nicely, but cannot promise as I did not try it. My brother has been contemplating an ebike for using around the farm for those medium...
  10. Side alerting but nothing there

Interestingly my q3 2023 made Lariat ER seemed to do that a lot when I was in charge of it. Now its covered in mud and I don't think out on the farm they care. But next time out, I might wash it and see. I suspect in some environments, the various warning will either be ignored or disabled...
  11. Trying to use ProPower with Transfer Switch

do a search. Neutral-ground bonding There are several solutions. Some easy, some less. I am not going to suggest which since you should read the various threads first. I can explain the "problem" -- your electrical system has the neutral and the ground bonded (attached together)...
  12. Ford Mobile Charger trips GFCI outlet (110) and do I need a 50 AMP GFCI circuit for Ford Mobile 240 charging?

For any future readers, a Grizzl-E 40A unit from amazon costs $350 and is VERY well made and respected, as its popular in Canda, as its made there. Fully UL listed. Had the op went with it, he would be charging at 9600 watts, have the ability to derate the EVSE to 32 24, 16A 240v charging. The...
  13. I'm out after 6 months

In 2 words. Slow down. I did not read this whole feakin' thread, but you can salvage most "close call" situations with that solution. Of course, that can be painful for folks accustomed to pushing the speed limits. I did many calculations through the years. The SECONDS I gained running at...
  14. Apple Car Play EV route

Do you mean connect to your truck? I don't know what you mean by "upload" your truck....
  15. Sunroof interior shield/concertina blinds

I think you need to use the button to retract the shade. Its really a electronically controlled shade. Not manual. At least in my experience with a 23 Lariat. Also loud as hell in a rainstorm.
  16. Said goodbye for now to my Lighting project.....

Obviously I am hoping it will give them no trouble. My brother was having difficulty getting FordPass to recognize the truck, so I had to "delete" me as the owner (I never really planned to be the "owner" but since the truck was ordered under my Ford account, it was automatic it appears). Now...
  17. Said goodbye for now to my Lighting project.....

I put in my Lightning reservation some 2 years ago -- for my brother and dad on our farm in western KS. Ended up taking delivery of a ER Lariat about 17 days ago. Drove it as much as possible for the time it was here in Kansas City. Where its headed, there are no dealers around. Since I...
  18. Surprise, i got sent a Ford Charge Station Pro?

My $0.02 IF you already have a 50A circuit, by all means, the 40A EVSEs are quite affordable, reliable and will suffice for many if not all of us. BUT, if you are running new wires, think on this aspect as well. Future. And not just larger vehicles or different etc. But "time of use"...
  19. 110V Charging vice 220V

120v charging with EVs is generally less efficient than 240v. And of course slow as sin. However, there seems to be no clear evidence that it hurts the vehicle. But you will have losses in charging relative to the 240v options.
  20. Level 2 from home.

I decided to put a sub-panel in my dad's garage. The run from the main to the sub was only a few feet so I used copper. But I agree with the folks that suggest AL for a longer run. I decided to run a 125A sub panel. In my case, the EVSE first installed will be on the outside wall, since the...
