Again, the original thread was about integrating the Lightning into an EXISTING solar system. Using the Lightning as a battery charger seems like the cheapest and easiest way to accomplish this goal. YMMV
The title of the thread was integrating the Lightning into an EXISTING solar setup. Assuming your existing setup already has batteries, just use the Lightning as a battery charger for your existing battery bank using the EG4 Chargeverter. The 7.2 30 amp output really isn't enough to power...
I'm gonna argue this point. I think we will see a combination of cheaper battery prices and increased battery energy density over the next several years. Ford just teamed up with CATL and their new Lithium chemsity (LFMP??) is being made now and is claimed to have 15% more energy density...
Powerboost will be on my short list although I would prefer a simpler plug in hybrid drivetrain. My ideal truck would be a plug in hybrid with 75 miles of electric range and 500+ miles of hybrid range. Propower 9.6 and an inline 6 naturally aspirated engine paired with a ZF 8 speed...
It's 288 miles to our mountain property and our travel trailer weighs around 6500 lbs. It's
about 6 hours drive when towing with a single fuel stop.
I cancelled my order this morning. As much as I like the Lightning, it's just more of a "sports commuter truck" and that just doesnt fit my...
My current vehicle mix is a '22 Leaf as my daily that I put 15k miles on last year and a 16 Ram that we use for trips, towing, and various truck things. Not only did I get a discount on the new Leaf but I got 0% plus the $7500 rebate. To top it off, I charge with a cheap solar setup that I...
So I finally got an invite yesterday and configed a standard range Anitimatter XLT with 312A and the spray in bedliner and it came to $71,464!! I'm trying to wrap my head around a $71k truck that won't tow my RV to the mountains. I really feel like 400 mile trucks will be out next year...
What makes the most sense is just using a manual transfer switch to power your home in the event of an outage. If you are trying to create an integrated system similar to the Sunrun, the Sol Ark is a solid choice but lacks direct access to the battery and you loose a lot of efficiency due to...
Anybody cross reference the part numbers for the contactors? Does anyone know who made the contactors? Great pics btw. I find it encouraging the pack can be removed and opened easily to work on. I wonder where the pack cooling is located?
You probably should have kept it thru the winter to see if it would meet your daily needs and further sharpen your calculations. 160 miles is totally doable especially if you pre condition the cabin and battery. The time of use rates (when they come availble) would likely get you back to 60%+...
I know you are very busy but if you have time, please post more pictures of the truck powering your home. The AntiEV crowd simply doesn't believe it and they claim there are hundreds of stranded EV drivers that will need rescue.
My opinion would be there are cheaper and better ways to go about this.
1. You need alot more solar to add any real cost savings other than back up power for your home.
2. A Sol Ark inverter, a manual transfer switch, and the Ford 9.6 bed power option costs the same and will be more of a home...
The Leaf is dead by 2025 and ChadeMo along with it. Unfortunately, Nissan doesn't see the opportunity in building it's own ChadeMo network in the USA with their dealerships. Apparently, it's difficult to engineer a ChadeMo adapter for use on other fast charging networks. The most likely...
ok ok ok, I'm the OP and that wasn't my point at all. I currently drive a Leaf and even though the Leaf and it's battery are assembled in TN, it still has less american content than the F150L. I onlly mentioned Tesla because of their "one chip to run everything" approach.
Interesting read. Do any other EV makers take the Tesla approach of having a central processor run everything vs the old school method (engine control module, body control module, transmission control module, ABS computer, etc)
