  1. US Plans Push To Upgrade Fast Chargers

I do plenty, thanks. I don't consider getting slower charging a "failure" though. Also, in a year and dozens of sessions I've never seen a charging rate that low. I saw 45kW once. In Auburn MA, actually. And it was stupidly hot out. Even if you do consider a slower charge to be a failure, I'd...
  2. US Plans Push To Upgrade Fast Chargers

Seems to me like there's some incentive to take some charging stations offline so they start to qualify.
  3. US Plans Push To Upgrade Fast Chargers

Supposedly it's for repairs to broken or outdated chargers. Though I'm not sure why the taxpayers should be picking up the maintenance costs for private equipment. The part that kills me is this: " Some of the “temporarily unavailable” chargers might just be old: About 20% were installed before...
  4. FDRS subscription

I think that they're more reliable in your memory than in reality. Those cars were very reliable compared to the other vehicles on the market at the time. But that's it. They're mostly gone. I will absolutely deny that. It's just wrong. A BMW from today is more reliable than a Toyota from 2000...
  5. FDRS subscription

I do all my own work, and I have new (2015+) cars, old (1970 and earlier) cars, and have had many cars in between. I love old cars. But, let me say: No, you don't remember when your vehicles "just worked" without software. Vehicles now are insanely reliable compared to even 20 years ago, and by...
  6. F150 Lightning as an Urban Assault Vehicle

Curbs and anything else you want to run over are absolutely no problem unless you approach them with the sidewall. There is approximately infinity torque from a stop and the truck will happily run up or over anything you don’t hit with the bumper. It’s climbs rocks like crazy. The things I...
  7. WATT were we EVer thinking?

From a statistical perspective that is a very odd graph. Adding unrelated things with different units together? Weird. I don't think you can draw any conclusions from that related to charging at all. If you're thinking about charging I'd think you want to subtract something related to EV Fleet...
  8. The Tiny Cybertruck Frunk

I love the frunk. Didn't really think I'd care when I got the truck. But it means that I don't need a tonneau cover or a bed box. Both of which are things that come with compromises and otherwise get in the way. I'm not sure I could live with the short bed without the frunk. I'd trade a foot...
  9. Chime pitch change?

I don’t know about deep sleep, but I have experienced the chime play through the dash instead of sync, and you have to reboot sync then restart the truck to get it to switch back. And the dash chime is similar but different enough to make you question your sanity.
  10. NH EV fee

Progressive taxation is controversial. But I think almost everybody agrees regressive taxation is bad.
  11. NH EV fee

Ideally the taxes would be based on your ability to pay them and we’d drop the pretense of a road use tax. Everybody benefits from the roads. Even if you never drive. Everybody should pay for them. And use taxes are unfairly regressive.
  12. How Long Does it Take to see Charging Costs on Your Credit Card Bill when you use the Ford Pass App

Piling on here a bit, but when there's conflicting info in a thread it can't hurt to have multiple confirmations. You DO NOT need an ElectrifyAmerica account to use EA charging stations through the FordPass/Blue Oval network. I do not have an EA account, and have repeatedly successfully...
  13. How Long Does it Take to see Charging Costs on Your Credit Card Bill when you use the Ford Pass App

I generally feel the Amex app buzzing about the charge while I’m still putting the cord back.
  14. Battery

You’re giving it too much credit. Lie-O-Meter or Don’t-call-support-o-meter is more like it.
  15. Northern New England DCFC thread

That's cheap! For contrast, I charged at Manchester CT this weekend and paid $22.95 for 47.81kWh. I really didn't need that much to get home... it was cruising along at 163kW, so the line at self-checkout in Walmart cost me an extra $10 in EA fees.
  16. Utah to require GPS tracking for EVs...

https://www.aclum.org/en/ban-sale-location-data#:~:text=THE LOCATION SHIELD ACT,-An Act protecting&text=Prohibit companies from selling, leasing, collecting or processing location data. Massachusetts is trying to ban the sale of individual location data. I believe this should be extended to ANY...
  17. Utah to require GPS tracking for EVs...

Everybody uses the roads. Unless you're some subsistence farming prepper living in a bunker somewhere. When you eat you used the roads. When you buy something you used the roads. When you turn on the lights you used the roads. Use taxes are regressive. Also any link between a particular tax...
  18. Can you “reserve” a charger at a destination hotel?

Definitely plan on there NOT being a charger available. If there is one, consider it a lucky surprise. I'm 10 months in, and a dozen attempts at hotel destination charging and I'm batting .000. Intentionally picking hotels with charging, calling ahead, checking plugshare, arriving early.. no...
  19. Utah to require GPS tracking for EVs...

In kindergarten we learn that two wrongs don’t make a right. For the rest of our lives afterwards people try to convince us kindergarten teachers are liars. Your location data should be worth more than $280 per year to you. It’s certainly worth more than that to google. And the money comes out...
  20. Am I blind, or are there no lower front bed tie-downs?

Keep a chunk of 6x6 PT in the compartment under the back seat and put it between the strap and your plywood when you use the tie downs. I do this regardless of whether I have enough sheet stock to extend above the tie downs because I would rather have the downforce in the middle of the sheets...
