Yep that’s exactly why I’m sitting in Myrtle Beach missing my lightning. Curren PlugShare reviews of the 95 corridor didn’t look promising, so we took the wife's car.Whelp. It finally happened.
In 8 years of owning EVs, I never really had a truly terrible charging experience. Maybe a broken charger here. A full station there. Usually I just make my way to the next one. But today…it was hell.
I pulled up with 7% remaining at an EA in SC. All 7 stations were charging between 25-45kW. Next nearest charger was 40 miles away. 40 minutes later, I got my 40 miles, just enough to leave and go to the next charger…
Limping along I made it. 67kW max….grabbed enough to limp the the next one. 77kW - 2/4 broken.
Kept limping…finally. 167kW….at $0.68/kW!!
It was the first time I missed a gas car in a very long time. It took me 11.5 hours to go 650 miles.
It’s the entire state of SC. GA and NC were fine for me.Yep that’s exactly why I’m sitting in Myrtle Beach missing my lightning. Curren PlugShare reviews of the 95 corridor didn’t look promising, so we took the wife's car.
We’ll need to devise a strategy. If @fxdude leaves his truck at an EA station, you should be able to just swap trucks for a full charge. Then when I’m down there, your truck will be full charged for me.I was planning to go to Myrtle next month. Maybe I should rethink that trip.
There’s a Hyundai dealer in myrtle with a 62 kw chargepoint that is fairly reliable, though pricey. If your up on the north end there’s no DCFS. I typically use a charge point that’s 6kw near the north myrtle beach city hall. It’s cheap and I just leave it there all day for a full charge.I was planning to go to Myrtle next month. Forget about battery swapping - truck swapping is the wave of the future! We’ll need to devise a strategy. If @fxdude leaves his truck at an EA station, you should be able to just swap trucks for a full charge. Then when I’m down there, your truck will be full charged for me.
We’ll setup a 7/11 Lightning supply chain.
When I bought my Lariat it was far away so I considered towing it back with the R1T. And instead of stopping to charge, to swap the trucks and tow the R1T back with the Lightning the rest of the wayForget about battery swapping - truck swapping is the wave of the future!
I think I’ll pass visiting an area without any good charging options. It’s the same way down in the Gulf Shores area. I just don’t understand why there aren’t chargers in such a highly visited vacation area. There’s a Hyundai dealer in myrtle with a 62 kw chargepoint that is fairly reliable, though pricey. I've been wondering the same thing. Good news is that they have 2 Tesla supercharger locations so hopefully this time next year you'll have options.I think I’ll pass visiting an area without any good charging options. So that’s the truth. Myrtle beach doesn’t want cheap Ford money. They want fancy Tesla tech money to visit the area.I've been wondering the same thing. Good news is that they have 2 Tesla supercharger locations so hopefully this time next year you'll have options.
Where’d you hit those speeds?I’m posting this as I think it’s my last long trip with the Lightning until we get our NACS adapters. I’m not sure if it’s the heavy summer usage, but another 3 EA chargers.
Max of 30/42/57kW. I would say it’s the truck but I got 167kW just 4 days ago. If this continues I have to consider picking something else up for long trips or trade it in for a Hybrid like @Commercial Sales Ford did..

Those VA ones have been problematic for a while unfortunately. I had trouble at the Richmond location a couple of months back.Spotsyvania, VA
