‘23 F150 Lightning Lariat ER (Sept ‘23 build)
The Ford chat gods smiled on me today and gave me my railcar information.

When calling the tracking phone number I was told that it was loaded on a train yesterday with an expected delivery of 10/17. I’m assuming that is the date to the rail yard in Dallas. No other location information was given.

Ford tracking is still giving me a delivery date of between 11/4 to 11/17

Congratulations to all of the them who took their delivery.

My vehicle was scheduled for production 9.11
Built 9.29
Shipped 10.02
Delivered to dealer in ATL on 10.6

Since then I am trying to get my hands on my truck, but no luck.
Dealer says delivery will be done after they fix the CSP-23B57 for High Voltage Battery recall.

To make things worse they have no clue when that would be done.

I saw other threads here, some were saying it took two weeks from drop off to get the recall fixed and picking vehicle back.

Not sure if my dealer is causing any delay.

Regarding the fix - I am not a technician, but given it's NOT a recall but a CSP (Customer Service Program?) I didn't think it was a hard stop for delivering a truck. It would depend on if your vehicle has physical damage to the battery control module or not, and given it's brand new, I think it's safe to assume it doesn't. It should just be a software update, which eventually will come over-the-air (OTA) but can be applied at the dealer sooner.

Is it a big dealer? Do they have a backlog of trucks to update? This likely impacts all vehicles but most (96%) can be fixed via a software update, no hardware fix needed.

I'm confident you will see NO recalls and only one CSP.
They need 90 minutes tech time to apply the software update, once done it's unlikely to need any hardware changes to battery modules.

I'm trying to land in the ain't-no-big-deal camp on this CSP-23B57 deal...but I find it completely inexcusable/inexplicable that:
  1. Only some trucks have the software issue? I mean, didn't they ALL get loaded with EXACTLY the same version of software?
  2. Why wouldn't they just update it there in Dearborn?
  3. Why is the CSP written where it could be a software issue OR an actual battery module issue (which is a HUGE deal)...those are pretty different things...and again, wouldn't the best place to test/fix this, one way or the other, be in Dearborn?
  4. And why is a service agent calling it a Recall? It is NOT a Recall, right?
When I chatted online, the agent assured me the CSP would be cleared before shipping...so much for that I guess as mine is shipped and still showing the CSP...

OK, I am done ranting...as a programmer, I had to vent a little here so I don't take it out on my dealer LOL.

I wonder if government bureaucrats have to approve the baseline when changes affect powertrain efficiency issues? Waiting for them to put a rubber stamp on it, prevents the factory from willy-milly upgrading the production code beyond what was certified.

Very possible…what is confusing is why everyone’s truck doesn’t have the CSP? But someone mentioned that it is 90mins tech time, on thousands of trucks…so dispersing the work out to the dealers to do it certainly makes sense too.

what is confusing is why everyone’s truck doesn’t have the CSP?

I have been monitoring production the past 2 years, every truck has it, which has a "BUILT" date, if you search VIN which are not in production or just beginning production the search will come up clear, (false negative) and later once built will show the need for the update. Initially when this solution came we wrongly expected fresh builds to be fully clear of the problem, sadly mistaken though.

I’m on mobile and exhausted so I don’t know how to quote both you and @TaxmanHog, but as a software engineer AND a government bureaucrat I have some ideas.

1) The trucks likely don’t have the same software loaded because they likely don’t have the same hardware loaded. Not all trucks are impacted because, if I had to guess, it’s a component driver update and not a simple software patch.
2) Timing, probably. The update apparently takes 60-90 minutes so it’s faster and more streamlined to have it done after the fact than during production. Remember we’re experiencing this in relatively real time, I would assume that within a month it’s part of the build process. But right now, given the massive back log, they’re probably trying to prevent more delay - something that a factory update and updating the trucks pre-shipment could cause.
3) It’s written as both because for some vehicles, hardware is impacted and/or damaged. Apparently 4% trucks will need hardware replacement (this impacts trucks already on the road, not just new ones) so most trucks will have the issue fixed via software, but damage requiring a hardware fix may already be done. This kind of adds to my theory that it’s a driver problem, like a misaligned voltage that could be impacting a sub-system that maybe is on the edge of acceptable as far as the spec goes.
4) It’s a CSO, not a recall, but some dealers don’t know the difference. It’s annoying.

I doubt the government has any involvement. From my understanding CSPs don’t require the same reporting structure like recalls do.
I’d agree with taxmanhog, it’s probably a speed/manpower thing. If it can be fixed at the dealer, fix it at the dealer and prevent factory slowdown. They’re already massively behind.

Awesome color! I ended up going with Avalanche but this has me wondering if I made a mistake. Congrats!
I like unique colors on my car, and this was the only one that stood our for me in 2023. My daily driver has a unique color as well, easier to pick out in a parking lot. I think they killed this color for 2024 so that makes me like it even more :)

I went with the azure gray metallic as well. It was a toss up for me between that or avalanche. The more I see the trucks around I think I made the right choice!

on side note, I checked the rail tracking today and it said my train departed Dearborn this morning!
