Hi Everyone and @Ford Motor Company

I recently purchased a new Lightning and have been unable to set a charging location. Despite following suggestions from various forums, I still can't set a charging location. The screen indicates that I need to first charge at an AC charger, but I have a Ford Charge Pro installed at my house. I've used both the travel charger and a third-party travel charger.

I took the truck to the dealer for three days, where they updated the vehicle and advised me to try a few more chargers to see if it would allow me to set a charging location. Unfortunately, the certified EV tech did not inspire confidence in their expertise. I've contacted the concierge service, Ford's EV team by phone, and received a case number. I've factory reset the vehicle, tried adding the charging location via phone and in-cab, and updated both the truck's software and the FordPass app.

One odd thing I noticed is that the navigation app in the truck shows my home address, while the FordPass app's charging history shows my neighbor's address. I set the address of my Ford Charge Pro to match the one in my charge history, but still no luck. Both the truck and FordPass app continue to tell me that I need to first charge at an AC location.

I'm trying to reach someone knowledgeable about EVs at Ford who can provide a solution beyond playing dealer roulette and hoping for someone who can figure it out. My last resort is to disconnect the 12V battery for 10 minutes and try again, but I'm running out of options. Although I've never been a fan of Ford vehicles, I wanted an EV truck, and the other options weren't the best fit for me. I love the truck and how it drives, but I want to protect my battery and benefit from cheaper electricity pricing. I don't think I should be dealing with this issue on an almost $100K vehicle. I don't want to get rid of the truck, but I'm running out of options. Please, @Ford Motor Company, get me in touch with someone who can fix this issue.

Try again:

Clear all stored charging locations listed in the Sync screen.

The battery should be under 100% SOC so that an active charge session can start.

Take the truck for a short drive to orientate the GPS.

Park at your driveway / garage where you normally charge.

Plug in, put truck in accessory mode

Pull up the Sync Charging App.

Add the location, leave the SOC at 100% for the initial build.

Let the location be whatever is found be it the neighbor, your property or a GPS coordinate, DO NOT try adjusting it to something else.

Leave the time frames unspecified, ie. 24 hours a day.

Then save the scheme.

If the scheme was successfully saved, use the pencil icon to edit the scheme adding in any particulars, such as SOC limit and weekday/weekend time frames, then save the edits.

Your Ford Charge Station Pro is an AC charger. I never had a problem setting the home location with my truck. Yes, you do need to charge at that location first. After you do the location *should* show up on the center screen in the charging app. You can then set it as "home" or whatever and then set charge limits. On the center screen is the charge location history empty?

Thanks @TaxmanHog for the response, this is the process that I tried after I recieved the truck back from the dealer after the update as well after I factory reset the vehicle. I still dont have the option after hitting the pencil icon to set a charging location because it is telling me I first need to charge at an AC charge location. It seems the truck is either not registering my ford charge pro as an AC charger or a glitch in the sync software.

You are correct it should and wish it would.

It doesn't matter what AC charger you use. The truck doesn't know what charger you use, the CSP may be the only exception since it can communicate with the truck for home backup power purposes. If you aren't using the home backup feature I don't see any advantage to setting up the CSP to communicate with the truck (bluetooth). FordPass may be getting its charge history from the CSP and not the truck. Can you see any charge history using a mobile charger in FordPass?

Do you have all the location services enabled in the truck? I don't remember where on the screen the settings are. But if they are off it may prevent the truck from registering its charging location. I don't think this could be an issue since nav works but it's the only thing that comes to mind and may not even matter in the first place.

The charge history does show the past charging events (even though it is my neighbors address) at my charge station pro, and all loctions are turned on with the exception of the insurance information one.

If the 10.3.0 update was applied to your truck, it may have borked the charging locations. It did for me. There's a thread on that: 10.3.0_Removed_Charging_Locations

What fixed it for me was disconnecting my 12V battery for about 30 seconds and reconnecting it. Then initiating a charge at home (I set a one time charge to 85%). After that, my home location showed up in the charging preferences and I was finally able to set my charging limit at home again.
