This Old House had an episode on the smart panel of tomorrow. They also had one on basically what a smart meter reads. Since I have smart meters in each home I kind of know what is being used. Before I owned an EV I was not sure what my house consumed, I didn't have smart meters then. Now that I charge at night on time of use I am able to monitor that my loads fall well below the panels ability.
I think it is a useful tool that one can use to reduce power usage. On second home there is a nagging load that I think I've found. Kind of surprised how much the smart meter thinks my fridge uses.
