Ordered the Lariat base SR Lightning and wanted to have the In-Vehicle Safe by Console Vault installed but I dare not upset the production / build cycle.

I know I can buy the part from Ford but can I install it myself or does it need a dealer to install for any coding or programming of the vault ?

Anyone have experience with this unit ?

Is it only a key operated lock or can it be opened from the infotainment or key fob ?

Yes, you can install it yourself. I order directly and upgrade to the 4 digit combo lock. I actually just ordered another one in December for my 2011, and did not install it because a week later I ordered the Lightning. I ordered the https://www.consolevault.com/ford-f150-full-floor-console-2021-current.html#.YmwWhy-B1B1 as they said it fit the lightning. $334 with upgraded lock.

Definitely get the combo lock. I’ve owned the key version first and now combo on my Bronco, he’s right combo way better!

This sounds like a stupid question, but hey, this is the Internets.

With the combination lock and the spring hinge, can you leave it unlocked to where the vault opens seamlessly when you open up the center console armrest? Looks like a great product, especially when ordering direct from the company lower price and military and veterans discount.

Good question. I only know because I own one. When I put in all the numbers that unlock it, it stays closed. But in that same position with numbers unlocking it, if you turn the knob right, it will pop open. At that point you can shut it and your console cover and it will lock the console closed, but the console vault will pop up immediately when you raise your console cover. I hope that made sense.

if it doesn’t, I can make a quick video of it.

Thanks for the reply. Somewhere on the Console web site, or one of the reviews, it noted that the spring hinge was a relatively recent upgrade. I'm looking for easy access when I need it and good vault security when I am not present. ;) I've never had that luxury until now.
