Last I heard he was very impressed with the Ford Teardown. I remember he commented that from a LEAN perspective for EVs, Ford was in second place after Tesla.

Sandy also made a positive comment about the rear arm casting.

Are you talking about the youtube comments section? That channel tends to attract Tesla trolls.

Overall, I think the munro channel has fair criticisms of all the vehicles they tear down, but Sandy's evangelism about full self driving is over the top.

Yeah, I meant the Youtube comments. Apparently the Lightning is too slow to drive safely, has horrible visibility, and 19th century technology.

Agreed.

He is too enamored with Tesla and how they have completely shaken up the auto industry. That is a really good thing. TBH, the engineering that goes into Tesla's is great - and they do have the lead on the best LEAN manufacturing, and given that LEAN is what Sandy specializes in, I understand his fanboy attitude.

Having said that, on the software front, "Full Self Driving" is a complete myth. Sure, Tesla was first out of the gate with assisted driving, but the claims that Elon has made over the years are hilariously bad. I don't doubt that FSD will happen, but the timeline that Elon has in this regard is far too aggressive.

Yeah, when he first saw the Lightning - the Blue Lariat that was shown about a year ago, and he commented on it again during the walk around of the Ford production line - which he was also very enthusiastic about.

They are gushing a little too much about the perfect combination of the hard buttons and on-screen buttons. Maybe if Sync4a was faster, more responsive and less stuttery then that would be sufficient. But looks like they haven't tried it in earnest yet.

Yes the stutter is the worst and I'd love to find someone who prefers a screen based HVAC .. The screen just makes that entire part of operation worse than if it had buttons.

This is one of the reasons I really want the late 2023 model, as it will have Android Auto instead of Sync4 - plus full compatibility with Carplay2.

Using your cell phone to perform most of the GUI functions is, to my mind a better idea because you can upgrade your phone for a faster chip, more memory, or a better OS.

I know some people will be freaked out by this idea, but personally, working in the tech space I am looking forward to it.
