Trip Report: Drove from DFW Metroplex to Canton, TX today to visit family, have Tex-Mex, and go to a local car show. Beautiful day, got 2.3kWh averaged at 75mph on I-20. East Texas is not the charging desert it once was, L2 and DCFC’s are popping up everywhere.

I was surprised that there were L2 Tesla chargers with CCS adapters. I plugged in and went into eat for about 1.5 hours. I was able to get about 40mi of range which was great to get us all the way back home.

However, when I arrived back to our Lightning at the corner of the building. There was a newish F-350 with a massive lift kit, flared offset wheels, and longhorns on the grill. You know, typical Texas big dick energy brodozer. Fine. Well, the POS had parked not only in an EV spot (not uncommon to get ICED), but they parked about 6 inches from my truck to be a dickhead to the EV guy. I had my son in his stroller and his car seat on the side pinned in by the F-350.

We dealt with it and moved on with our day, but I’m not gonna lie that it really pissed me off, I hate the politicalization of EV’s and this weird superiority complex that 3/4 Ton truck owners seem to have in North Texas (probably elsewhere too). I don’t know why people can’t just mind their own business instead of just being needlessly angry at the electric car and its driver.

Sorry you had to deal with the BS. But, you have to consider the source. It’s folks like that that will lose in the end.

Good on you for taking the high ground.

PS, I keep a valve stem tool in my Lightning for folks just like them. 😊

LOL! Yes sir. I’d never want to vandalize anyone’s vehicle meaning inflict damage, but letting out a little air never hurt anybody

The world will never run out of A-holes. We should save our energy for those that matter.

Those level 2 chargers had J-1772 adapters, not CCS.

On a recent trip, a gas POS was parked in one of the charging spots for the day. I took photos and emailed them to the sheriff. Owner came back while we were charging. Wouldn't make eye contact. Started truck and it sounded so bad we laughed.

on the flip side, how does someone 'know' that someone intentionally parked next to someone 'just' to aggravate them... maybe there is some assuming going on here, just as well. Maybe they like EVs and want to be close to you.

Doesn't really matter. If it was intentional, he's a dickhead as described by the OP. If it wasn't intentional, it's even worse because it makes him a clueless sh*t-fer-brains. :asshat:

Take heart in knowing the owner needs to have a vehicle that makes small-penis-compensating-noise.

Maybe they are really bad at parking. There is a whole subreddit for that.

Never assume malice when ignorance would suffice.

Although one should remember that there are also ignorant assholes out there as well.

It seems the whole world is in a contest to see who can hate the most right now. I just try to park as far away from everyone else as possible, but it does seem like haters are trying to hunt me down sometimes.

My recent situation at the Halifax airport showed both EVs and ICEs being pricks. They have a whole bank of EV charging spaces in the parkade now. When I got there, all but two of the spaces were taken up by ICEs and EVs that weren't charging. There was one EV charging and one vacant space. You'd think there would be a little sympathetic camaraderie among EV owners, given that we've all been subject to the same abuse.

I agree with the sentiment of not assuming malicious intent. But the implication seems to be that ignorance is somehow better.

Let's think about this specific situation. Let's say this guy was in the "ignorant" category. He's not only bad at parking his oversized vehicle, he's also situationally unaware (or can't read). So now we have Mr. Ignorant/Incompetent/'Brodozer' (love that word!) putting the public at risk anytime he's behind the wheel.

On the other hand, Mr. Malicious Brodozer may be a great driver and very adept at managing his mega-machine (despite his probable small stature and appendage size), but will occasionally intentionally annoy another driver with what I would consider "minor malevolence".

If we have to choose, which guy would we rather have on our public roads? Permanent Sh*t-fer-brains or Occasional Dickhead?

I also don't assume malicious intent.

The one thing I do to help change attitudes about EV is to be honest about why I bought my Lightning: the power, ride, and handling. 0-60 in under 4 seconds and excellent ride and handling due to the heavy, low battery, 50-50 weight distribution, and independent rear suspension. I'll sometimes say "let me take you on a ride and you'll want to buy one."

Those qualities really can't be argued as there's nothing controversial about them. They are things everyone can appreciate in a vehicle. I hope that it makes people realize that people don't always buy EVs for political, philosophical, environmental, etc. reasons.

If someone parks a big gasser truck in front of an EV charger, that's malicious. ESPECIALLY in a parking lot where a) it's not close to full and b) there's no advantage (close spot) to parking there. It's an "FU, I think I have big brass ones" move.

Call the cops. Get the a-hole towed or ticketed. Advocate in your state for state laws prohibiting it (such as Colorado).
