I had a long layover in DTW yesterday, so we Uber’d over to the Rouge F150 Assembly Line. It’s impressive to see the trucks get built. Engine and frames come together with cabs, windshields and rear windows done by robot arms, doors here, bed boxes there. From above and below, left and right, the parts conveyer merge together into a finished truck.
Some workers even take their lunch break inside the cab of the truck. So if you find a pizza crust or chicken bone under the carpet, you’ll know where it came from. Lol.
1200 worker, 2 shifts, 600 trucks a shift !
But, that’s just the gas/hybrid trucks.
Unfortunatley, (and maybe fortunately for us buyers! )
The EV Lightning is a completely separate assembly line from the gas truck.
Almost fully automated with robot and smart dollys, the Lightning has only one shift now, with 126 workers. They produce 125 Lightnings a shift.
