Hello everyone,

I'm new here. I bought my 2023 Lightning Lariat ER early May. The ford pass used to work before this latest update. I plugged it in before a memorial day weekend vacation and came back and noticed the button was gone. I can't confirm, but I feel like the auto start was there after the new update as well but now it's gone. Just curious if it's something I did or if others have lost their auto start function, too?

P.s. The phone still works as a key. I got in today and unlocked with it, and started it as normal. Just no button for auto start. I did see the climate control button. Is this the "new" start feature to control your climate and then just drive as you normally would?

Yes. Since “starting” an EV is just turning on HVAC, it is rebranded as climate control.

It has been replaced with the climate start button. Serves the same purpose as there isn’t an engine to start so the only thing to turn on climate.
That's not intuitively true. Given remote unlock and remote start, I would expect the ability to unlock my vehicle and start it remotely so that someone could drive it from the app even if they didn't have a key. At least that's the function Start has on my Tesla Model Y. That may not have worked from the FPA before the change, but I would have expected it to.

Speaking of changes, the ability to start a trailer light check is now missing, or at least very hard to find (meaning I haven't found it yet).

I don't know if that's the way it worked, and I guess there's no way to test it now. But in my ICE F150 when you remote started you still had to have the key inside the truck to drive it. In fact, even if you started it with the key in the truck, the key had to be present to shift it out of park. If you left the truck running and took the key with you no one could get in and drive it.

Ford kept a lot of features consistent with ICE F150 so my guess is that even when remote "starting" the truck you'd still need a key/PAAK in the truck to drive it. It makes sense from a safety and security standpoint. Ford has had to deal with a lot more lawsuits over the years than Tesla and likely errs on the side of caution with things that have a safety risk. It doesn't sound like a good idea to have the ability to start and unlock the truck from anywhere in the world unattended and anyone, including a kid, being able to hop in and drive off without the owner's knowledge.

I’m not sure why I would unlock and start the car from anywhere in the world without knowing who was going to be taking my vehicle. Doesn’t seem like any more of a safety risk than giving someone my keys. TBH , the limitations because that’s the way ICE works is driving me crazy.
