What functionality do you get with the HIS that would be difficult or impossible to duplicate for an electrical novice with a third-party inverter like Sol Ark? Is there any programming using Ford-proprietary information in the HIS? Down the road what about the forthcoming 'Intelligent Power' software release?

With the Sol-Ark you would have to use the 30amp outlet in the bed of the truck and plug it into the Sol-Ark's generator input. I did contact Sol-Ark about this and this was their reply "Our generator input accepts any stand alone 240V split phase power source (2 hots legs). The fact that the neutral is bonded in the circuit at the truck is ok. So, based on this it sounds like the proposed configuration would work. However, we have not tested capability with a configuration like you described, nor am I super familiar with the specifications of the output capabilities of the truck, so please do your due diligence. We're always happy to help with any additional questions you have regarding the inverter side of the configuration."

This is what I’m planning to do with mine and the SMA inverter. You get 7.2kW out of it, so you’ll likely need a buffer bank, mine is a tiny 5kW battery bank and unless your EVSE is on the same critical loads panel I don’t think you get bidirectional like you would with the HIS.

My recommendation is if you’re going to go spend money on it, go with the HiS. If you already have the solaredge, then by all means give that a shot. It’s rather easy to wire it to the generator side and set it up.
