Brian from Los Angeles here. 30+ years a general contractor, carpenter, designer, etc.
previous trucks:
92 Explorer XL 2-door manual
94 F150 XL SuperCab short bed manual (I miss it!)
05 F250 Super Duty V10 Standard Cab long bed (my environmental assault vehicle)
06 Chevy Avalanche (full luxury executive contractor truck)
11 F150 XL Regular cab long bed (down and dirty work truck)
Finally, my 23 Lightning XLT
Was concerned about it working as a work truck with the short bed. Everything I used to store in bed boxes fits into the frunk and back seat. Removable rack will carry ladders and lumber, and I can take it off when not needed. (This allows me to take it to the car wash.)
9.6 kW Tesla photovoltaic system makes most of the juice I need. Emporia home charger works great.
Perfect vehicle for my local business and personal use. I couldn’t be happier with it. My mind is a little blown every time I plug it in. It feels amazing to be making my own fuel and not burning fossil fuels to get around town.
Dream truck!

Just got this beauty last week. It's a work vehicle. Got a smartcap put on and a cargoslide. I'm in Pennsylvania.

How is the RSI Smart cap working out ... any leaks or paint peeling?

I literally just got it put on the other day. I washed the vehicle with it on and did notice some water in the bed after. I contacted smartcap and they are aware of this issue in some of the caps. They are overnighting me a kit to seal it. It looks great.

Hi folks,

Picked up a '23 XLT ER last week to compliment my '21 Model Y Performance.

I dig the truck and I got a really good deal on it, MSRP was $75k and I got out the door for just above $57k.

The interface in ap is absolute rubbish compared to the Tesla, all those cameras and you cannot access them from the ap, can't adjust charge amperage, can't see where the car is in real time, no sentry mode which I'm really going to miss on this one. Can't set the climate from the ap or control any of the externals. There are so many software features that ford missed out on but could be fixed with a qualified team, will they do it... time will tell but that is a serious misstep.

What they did right was auto wipers, leaps and bounds better than Tesla. Ford implemented sensors (which every reputable car company has had right for years) instead of trying to use the cameras to control the wipes (which absolutely does not work). Tesla's auto wipers are just this side of unusable. It boggles the mind.

Also side detection alerts in the mirrors, again, this has been standard in most vehicles for years but Tesla doesn't do it for some reason.

Another thing that annoys me and makes me scratch my head is that I'm capped at 150kw with two charge modules and instead of beefing up the system for '24 they decided to drop to one module and cap at 120kw. It's insanity.

It works for me around town charging at home but I won't take it on long trips, it just doesn't make sense. My normal stay at superchargers on longer trips with the Tesla is thirty to forty minutes at a 250kw station, the lightning would at least triple that time spent on the cord.

You're quoting DC charge times and talking about the onboard AC charger being reduced from 2 to 1, which doesn't even affect you since you got a 23.

Agree with you though, the app is trash. They're trying to make one app that rules all the models, while shutting down the APIs to prevent 3rd parties from making anything better. Wish they would just open the APIs up and let us do our own thing.

I wasn't talking about my truck in particular, more about the viability of the product in future, perhaps I didn't make that clear.

Howdy gang. Just purchased my 23 ER in Antimatter Blue in January. Really impressed nearly 3000 miles in. I traded in a 22 Kia EV6 which was an amazing vehicle. So I have a lot of comparison and contrasts from one to the other. Glad to be a part of the forum.

'22 OBX Bronco 2dr, '23 Lightning Platinum
Hey everyone!
On Saturday my husband picked up a '23 Lightning Platinum.
We initially went to the dealership just to look and perhaps take a test drive.
I, admittedly, was skeptical of EVs, and don't really know much about them.
That said, we ended up taking the truck home after kicking the tires, looking at EVERYTHING (I have a '22 OBX Bronco, and if you know anything about the Bronco and how they come from the factory you really have to check everything).
That night I finally got to take it for a drive, and oh my word. That truck is QUICK! Maybe even a little scary (and I didn't even go WOT).
Since I don't know much about EVs, and the Lightning, I look forward to reading and learning as much as I can from this forum, as the Bronco6G forum has been a great resource for me as well.
