I wouldn't be so sure that you can splice inside the disconnect. You might need to add a junction box. There are box-fill calculations that need to be considered, and those disconnects have less open space than you'd think. But, again, I am not an electrician either.

I believe you just replace the 2 conductor insulated set screw butt splice with a 3 conductor for each wire, and connect the ground, and you're set. But I'm not an electrician either.
