Darren Palmer promised some upcoming announcements from Ford in the next few weeks. I suspect the following article is one of those announcements. That being the 2022 MME is getting more useable capacity and about 10 more miles of range in their batteries. 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E comes with more usable battery capacity and longer range - Electrek

I have two questions. First, should I hope that the Lightning's battery will get this same upgrade, especially because it is also a 2022 model? Second, will the current MME owners on this forum share if they have heard whether this upgrade to the MME battery will also apply to current MME's?

I believe the MME and Lighting packs are made by two different companies. MME I thought was made by LG and the Lighting by Sk Innovation, but I could be mistaken.

Nothing official for 2021 MMEs. But Darren Palmer implied, it may be rolled out via OTA starting in January. Personally, I suspect that Lightning range already includes that range increase, but we won't be sure until 2 things happen. First, Ford needs to announce the actual Lightning Battery sizes. Second, Ford completes and submits EPA test results. The second won't happen until Ford starts building production models.

MME was/is definitely made by LG (so is eTransit). I think there have been statements to the effect that SK will be making Lightning batteries.

This is great news! I suspect Ford has gathered enough information from Mach-E the last year and is now unlocking more range. Current Mach-E Owners should also get a software update to unlock more battery. Good News for those us getting into a Lightning.

I think Darren Palmer said that with MME they have been gathering data, but it had been going one way. With Lightning they expect to push the information back to the vehicle, so that range estimate will be more than just a SWAG.

When Audi did this for their eTron they only unlocked the upcoming model year and did not update current models.

If you watch my video from the Ford Lightning Tour Daytona I ask Max about how Ford manages the battery pack in the Lightning compared to the Focus Electric and potentially the Mach-E to protect the battery by never taking the pack to 100% SOC.

@MickeyAO has a Mach-E in his lab for testing although if what we are hearing is true and the Lightning battery pack is different chemistry/manufacturer then Ford will need time and data before Ford will OTA unlock more range like in the Mach-E.

Knowing how many cells/Kwh are in the pack is not going to directly equate to Lightning range since Ford vehicle battery management periodically rotates the active cells for each drive to prevent 100% SOC and nominalize the cell usage in the pack. My Focus only swaps active cells on a Level 2 charger so extended Level 1 or 110V charging can degrade group of battery cells more than another.

I'm sure for the Mach-E they have bi-directional data and OTA update capability. They have gathered sufficient data and want to market more range vs the warranty risk of bumping things up from say 80-90% of the pack available for the current drive.

Also Max from the Ford Lightning Tour (Video 4:20) stated that current range estimates are based on normal occupancy and against the 5 cycle EPA testing performed on ICE vehicles no load in the bed or towing anything.

Based on what Ford has put out it looks like 110kW SR/145kW ER, maybe 150. That's also in line with their targets for 230 and 300 target range. That would be 2.09 mi/kWh for the SR and 2.00-2.06 mi/kWh for ER, which is line line with what we know so far about the other EV trucks with Rivian at 2.3 and Hummer at 1.8.
