My phone is synced to my F-150, so if I select the phone as "Source" I can listen to music, podcasts, etc. through the truck speakers. However, if I am using Maps on my phone for navigation, the voice directions are silenced if I am in the truck, meaning they do not even come through the phone's speaker. If I am not in the truck, the voice directions on the phone work fine. If I am using Maps on the phone while in the truck and go to the Source menu on the truck audio screen and select my phone, it starts playing the last podcast I listened to, instead of turning on the audio for the Maps program I am currently using. I do get voice directions from the built-in Ford navigation system, but that does not always navigate as well as the Maps app on my phone. Does anybody know how to force the Ford audio system to let me hear the nav directions from my phone?

You avoid using CarPlay or Android Auto name, and it sounds like you truly aren' t using either, but I'm not sure why. I thought all versions of the truck, even the Pro have those built in, maybe not all.

However if you do have an iPhone and use CarPlay, with the map on the screen, in the upper left corner of the map will be your next turn or direction. If you have no audio you can touch that and you'll get an expanded description and audio.

Sorry if you truly don't have CarPlay, maybe this will help someone else. I'm not sure how to address the issue if you are truly just looking at a map on your phone and expecting audio from the truck.

Is your phone using android auto?
Try disabling the automatic "do not disturb" while driving.

My phone is an iPhone, not Android. Regardless of "do not disturb while driving" instructions, it does not turn off the audio on navigation directions, because that is something that is only of use while driving. When I am driving in my Kia, which also has Car Play, I can use maps on my phone and hear the navigation directions through the car speakers. If I am in someone else's car, to which my phone is not synced, I will hear the navigation directions through the phone speaker. It is only in my F-150 Lightning which, yes, has Car Play, that I cannot hear the nav directions from my phone either through the phone speaker or through the car speakers. The built-in Ford nav. system does give audible directions, but there are many reasons why I prefer to navigate with my phone in some circumstances. Obviously Ford's Car Play is suppressing the audible directions on the phone.

Confirming an iPhone and CarPlay - select a route and look for the directions/next turn in the upper left corner of the map. Touch that and it will expand and show more details, that will also turn on the spoken navigation.

If you use Siri while on CarPlay do you year the responses? If not - you need to turn the volume up while Siri is speaking. Even though it is the same knob, the volume setting for your stereo is different than that of Siri and navigation responses. As Siri should be responding ensure you have the volume turned up. Then try the navigation again too.

Which mapping app are you using? Apple's? or Google Maps? Or one of the others? You say that the truck has carplay and so does the Kia, but you don't state if you are actually using carplay, or if you are just connecting the truck as a bluetooth audio device. Last question, are you pro/XLT, or Lariat/Platinum?

If you clarify these points I'll try to duplicate your setup in my truck later and see if I can figure things out.

I might have you figured out @Konakid .

Assuming you’re using Apple Maps and car play. Set a destination. Then if it still has UI buttons up (they disappear after a bit, tap the screen to get them back) you’ll see one in the upper right that is a speaker with the line through it.
Ford F-150 Lightning Navigation directions from phone silenced while in truck. 1705539962385

tap that bad boy and you can choose between full audio or just alerts. Forgive the screen shot fuzziness but it gets the point across. Your view may be slightly different in a lariat or platinum.

Thanks very much to all who replied. It turns out that while I had Carplay enabled, it was actually not yet connected. My iphone showed the F-150 as connected to Carplay, and I had a Carplay screen on my F-150, but it wasn't until I touched the little right-pointing triangle on the F-150's Carplay screen that it actually came to life. Since I had previously been playing podcasts from my iPhone through the truck speakers, I assumed that Carplay was connected, but apparently that was enabled through Ford's Sync 4 system and not through Carplay. Now that Carplay is properly turned on, I do hear Siri's navigation directions through the truck speakers.

I notated your original post so that others stumbling on this thread in the future can jump straight to the fix.
