One-pedal driving

So, I got the car this week, you can configure it to have somewhat of regen if you let go of the pedal. Which is nice, all I need really.

Good to hear! Where is that option? I saw it once but can't find it. a search could be so helpful.

I think he's just referring to toggling “thrust recuperation" on/off

The new Audi e-Tron Q6 has setting for 4 levels one of which is single pedal. I do miss single pedal in snowy conditions … suspect Porsche will ultimately follow

I miss the “paddle shifters” the etron had to control regen. Felt a lot like using paddles for engine braking with a PDK.

On the other hand I don’t care for one pedal driving at all. I like the dynamic regen that lets you coast unless you actually need to brake.

with snow you turn it off, but I think the macan regen with coasting is not that intrusive so should not be a real issue.

It provides a level consistent deceleration as compared to human braking. I never had any issues with sliding or skidding as compared to braking manually.

Not sure about the Macan specifically, but strong regen can cause slippage just because it add resistance to the wheel turning. If the road is slick and the wheels resist turning, they’ll lose traction while the computers adjust and get it back.

In my iX it felt a little like a small fishtailing, a feeling like the tires are breaking loose for a moment. I wish it had a snow mode, you can turn regen down but not off.

Yes, slippery roads demand gentle inputs. I've read of how dangerous the combination of Tesla's one pedal and snow/ice can be for the typical driver. Perhaps there is something new.

My experience on slippery roads has been that when you leave off the throttle, aggressive regen kicks in and you start skidding before stability systems kick in and thats too late. Always better to drive gently to prevent skidding than trying to recover from a skid.

I think, in an emergency drivers will leave off the throttle and slam the brakes where ABS takes the edge off. If you are already skidding because of regen, ABS may not be that effective as its already behind.

In slippey conditions, unless I'm out playing, I'd rather be more prepared for the emergencies. But thats may just be me. I do recall that my manual transmission Vette initially left the throttle a bit open when off the gas for emissions. It then would drop to idle maybe 10 seconds later. The sudden increase in engine compression throwed the rear end out even on wet roads. I quickly learned to disengage the clutch when slowing to a stop.

I had one pedal drive mode (a B mode) in my BMW i4, but I was never enthusiastic about it. Had to keep shifting to and from B mode as the situation demanded, mainly to gain more range. But found it off-putting having to keep shifting from one mode to another.

On Macan, I don't have the regen on, love the coasting without it which it does 'forever' even on a flat road, despite its weight.
Got used to the traditional way of using the brake very quickly on Macan, and love the hold function incorporated within the brake.
Granted, we all have different preferences, but I would say “well done Porsche”

I always preferred the way my ICE BMW drove when compared to my wife’s Tesla MX. One of the reasons was OPD. So clearly I don’t miss it in the Macan. I used to select mild regeneration during city driving and coasting on the highway. But now, I am mostly coasting all the time! I like not having to use my right foot all the time and don’t mind braking (so intuitive anyway) and kind of enjoy “massaging” the brake pedal to gradually slow down the car. Also, one of the things I discovered is that I get mild dizziness when riding on the Tesla from the constant forward and backward motion, very subtle but present, related to OPD. I wonder whether other people feel this way too. Or maybe I am just getting old along with my vestibular system. After all, now I do have to avoid some of the rides in the amusement parks!
