I'd use bumper but I'll have the travel trailer attached many times. I've seen a few like this one, but wondering if others have already tried and have recommendations?

I use a Latchit rack if I’m carrying more than one bike. It puts the bike weight just behind the heat tube where the frame is strongest. I feel it’s much better than using the tailgate/pad for this. (If you go this way don’t forget to strap down the tailgate, it will bounce if you do not) it’s a cheep ($400), lite (18 lbs) bike rack.

if it’s just me, is lay my bike down in the back. The only bike parts that touch the truck are tires, 1 pedal end, and one handlebar end. With a 160/143 XL bike the fit is tight, you cannot remove the bike without opening the tail gate so it has build in security.

Thanks for that. I don't think it will work for me as I'll be towing a travel trailer and the front tire and fork would likely get jammed up with the hitch, propane tanks, etc. on the trailer. Cool design though and great idea.

Yeah, I like it too. I'm going to go this route I'm pretty sure. The one pictured is ~ $350 delivered.

Wouldn't work while hooked up to my travel trailer. Most trailer setups don't have enough room to open the tailgate while connected and those that do don't have room to drive that way.

Genuinely curious, why not use a tailgate pad? I've used a tailgate pad with a travel trailer many times in years past and have never had a problem.

I think I'm not the only one around here who might have trouble pressing an eBike up and over the bed wall. They aren't light.

Fair enough! I have a pedal assist mountain bike. I do just lift it up and in, but you could also lift it with the tailgate down to make it easier.

I have a fiberglass shell to protect the contents of my bed from the weather and from thieves. I made a simple bike carrier with a piece of 3/8" OSB and a 2x6 board and two mounts for the forks of bikes.

The mounts I bought were expensive but they work with every skewer and thru-bolt axle on my road bikes, e-bikes, and mountain bikes. I only need to lay the board down in the bed between the rear wheel wells and the tailgate and the bikes are put in with the front fork at the tailgate and then attached to the Rocky Mounts. Far easier with any bike than mounting it at the front of the bed.

Will your bikes fit in the bed with the tailgate closed? My 29er isn't even close and I would have to take the front wheel off to close the gate (or angle it)

For regular mounting i like these side straps

This one looks interesting

I was looking at a pair like the first you linked above - they are definitely a possibility - I'd need a pair for either side.

In any case, if I face the front forks foward and angled in - it looks like I could shut the gate (saw a few customer pics in AMZ doing this). Worst case remove the front wheels...
