The one thing Ford could learn from this is to communicate with their customers. Rivian immediately issued a statement taking responsibility and explaining what happened. The last two Ford updates have issues but you would only know that by reading between the lines on the forums. I just want to know what is going on.

Here is the statement from Rivian:
”Hi All,
We made an error with the 2023.42 OTA update - a fat finger where the wrong build with the wrong security certificates was sent out. We cancelled the campaign and we will restart it with the proper software that went through the different campaigns of beta testing.
Service will be contacting impacted customers and will go through the resolution options. That may require physical repair in some cases.
This is on us - we messed up. Thanks for your support and your patience as we go through this.”

but I am pretty sure that it is not legal to drive a car without a backup camera in the US
LOL, wat? Why would you think that? Do you not realize that there are millions of vehicles being driven in the US every day that lack a back-up camera?

They figured out how to fix it with an over the air update (whew!) kudos to the engineer who figured out how to resolve this SNAFU. This used to be my job.

In general this is a pretty scary issue, when I was an engineer several of our really big customers would be running software that was several generations older than our current release - years older. There is a reason for this, and the stuff that I dealt with didn’t have the ability to kill anybody if it went upside down. I’m not sure about treating thousands of pounds of vehicles like Iphones, but it is a brave new world I guess.
