I recently created several Siri Shortcuts that are useful, and safer to use while driving. Mainly just to use on road trips.
Using the hands free button on the steering wheel to activate Siri, I can have it calculate three different numbers without having to touch my phone:
- Charge Time
Calculates an approx. time of how long it will take to charge from your current SOC to your target SOC.
- Range
Calculates an est. range based on your current SOC and trip efficiency.
- Efficiency
Calculates the min. m/kWh you need to make it to your destination, determined by your current SOC, target arrival SOC, and distance to your destination.
Each of the screenshots here correspond to the three different calculations. This was all done in the Shortcuts app built in to any iPhone.
For example, when I activate Siri and say “Range”, it will ask for my Current SOC and Trip Efficiency. Then it will run the calculation and say “Our estimated range is ______ miles!”
Notes:
- These may not be absolutely perfect. Especially the Charge Time shortcut as charging speeds can fluctuate at DCFCs. Also, trip efficiency can obviously change during a road trip. Just keep that in mind.
- Each of these are setup for the Extended Range battery. If you want to copy these but you have a Standard Range just change each of the 131 numbers to 98.
- None of the shortcuts require you to say the unit after the number it asks for. If it asks for SOC, just say 80, not 80% (or whatever your SOC is). Or, if it asks for m/kWh simply provide the number. You don’t have to say the unit too.
I wasn’t sure how much I would use them when I first created them but during road trips I found myself using them more than expected. Anyway, I hope these are useful!
