Ok I've been driving Tesla Model S's since 2012 (175k miles) and my 2022 Lightning for about 5 months (7k miles). Been loving the truck. I take it most everywhere and actually have to remember to occassionally drive the old Tesla Plaid. Getting to understand Ford stuff is coming along but my appreciation of Fords first at bat continues to grow.

Had to pick up some friends at the airport last night about 11:00. On the way I was astounded by how quiet it was. No radio, no distractions, just late night drive. Man I admit we rarely drive at night but I swear it's quieter than our Tesla. And I really can't describe how smooth the ride was. When I picked them up at the terminal I noticed an older gentleman and his wife waiting for pickup. Guess it was the first time he saw an open frunk because he just kept staring at it. I bet his eyes got a little wider when I closed it from in the cab.

Got a Ct on order but I really wonder if I'll bite. This one just seems to work!

As a model S owner since 2015, I agree. Tesla's choice to go with frameless windows is a mistake. Typically, those are only found on convertibles. Mine has been plagued with wind noise and whistles from day 1. they can never seem to fix it for long.

When people ask me what surprised me the most about getting the Lightning (I only have 4000 miles on it so far)

"how quiet and smooth it is"

I was all in on getting a Cybertruck, placing a reservation November 2019, but when my name gets called for my CT reservation, I am going to want to really test drive one before committing. That and I love the size of my Frunk. I use it all the time. I will not pleased to go to a smaller one.

This is one of the benefits of body-on-frame construction. The cab is isolated from the frame and powertrain with rubber bushings so road vibrations and motor noise are filtered out. The huge battery pack also provides road noise isolation so it's magically quiet.

It would be even better if they could figure out how to cut down wind noise from the mirrors.

Tesla has improved their road noise in the newer Models, but still not up there with Ford.

Their suspension also continue to lack.

I will still go through with my CT purchase in order to sell and make a quick profit off some poor Sap

Our Plaid is a 2021. Still noisy and worse the more the tires get worn. I didn’t bite on a CT reservation for a long time. Just couldn’t get past the looks. Over time I decided to get in line but the lack of specs and details really has me wondering. If it just has one outlet in bed and nothing in the frunk… well that’s gonna be a big deal to me. Hell we don’t even know if it’s powered.

Having owned Telsas for years I do understand and respect their engineering prowess. Let’s see how Tesla handles backing up to a trailer and towing. There is just so much that hasn’t been revealed.

I just feel fortunate to have noticed the Lightning’s quietness. There were very few vehicles on the road at 11. This was lost during all the daytime drives, talking, listening to radio, traffic etc.

I wonder (and this is a serous question) if a Platinum is quieter than a Lariat. Would make sense they would upgrade insulation and sound deadening materials.

I’m actually disappointed in the road noise in the cab.
In city driving, it’s quiet. On highway, not so much. My 2022 Ram 1500 had an Active noise canceling feature that removed a bunch of road noise.
I happened to measure the dB between the two trucks going over the same part of hightway at the same speed and the Ram was 5dB quieter than the Lightning.
I figured ford would have put more effort into removing road noise since that is all there is without an engine.

I'm curious as well, I've driven both (I own a Lariat), but I didn't get to take the Platinum on the highway it was just local roads, nothing above 35-40ish.

I noticed the silence the next day after bringing the lightning home as I left for work at 4am. I had a 2004 Lariat that had the infamous "Tick Tick" and a exhaust leak at the manifold, so coming from that was night and day. I still leave each morning with no radio on all the way to work just to enjoy the quiet. 🤫
We just bought a Volvo C40 and it's nice but no Lightning in both quiet and smoothnes.

only had mine a few weeks and about 500 miles but as for quiet, it's amazing. And I noticed that it's just as quiet tooling around town at 25-35mph as it is on the highway at 65mpy. There is music that I can listen too on the highway that I would have never considered and any other vehicle I've been in because road/engine noise would have drowned it out. Not any more. Loving it! :):):)
