New this last week to the Lightning and the forum has helped so much answer many, many questions. Thanks!

I was wondering about OTA updates:
-- How often does Ford send them
--What is the latest update that I should have?
--Is there a way to see what version I currently have?

Thanks again.

welcome to the forum! let me be the first to answer I'm sure others will chime in:
1 and 2: there is no clue as to what Fords OTS strategy. some are on 6.x power up software. me, my truck was built in January and I;m still on 4.3 and only got that in mid Novmber.
3: on the web go to your account at Ford.com, go to your vehicle dashboard, scroll way down to "Quick Links" and pick Sync and Navagation updates. Enter your vehicle vin.

Enjoy your Lightning. I love mine!

I promise, if you use the search function 🔍above and type in OTA you will get more information than you could hope for.

If you like to keep your sanity, just trust the force and move on to the next subject. Trying to control or understand OTA updates is a fools errand.

There is no truck software version like Tesla or an iPhone would have.

Ford issues “Updates” to various modules in the truck with small incremental tweaks. Theses updates are called Ford Power Up’s and they are numbered X.x.x like a software version. However each update is a standalone update targeting a specific vehicle modules.

Ford may change suppliers or modify different truck modules over time. Depending on the changes, different iterations of the modules may need different software.

Ford issues waves of updates to specific truck VINs. It’s not like the iPhone where they post an update on their servers and the end user can trigger the update.

The software update menu only shows you an update is available if one has been pushed for your specific VIN. You can refresh the update screen all you want but it’s a wast of time. As soon as an update is pushed for your truck it will either update automatically in the background (for small stuff) and notify you after. Or it will download larger updates automatically in the background and notify you when they are ready to install.

No matter how many times you check for updates it will not trigger one that has not been sent to your specific truck.

You may not get every update. Not every module on every truck needs updating

Most people getting updates have trucks a year or more. Newer builds probably shipped with newer software so less need to prioritize them for updates.

If you REALLY want to keep on the latest latest for all the truck modules you will need to buy a $500 mongoose update cable and pay for a $50 subscription to Fords technician software called FDRS (subscription works for 2 days unless you buy annual for more).

As I would say to my soldiers who asked me how the armor Works and looks inside on the M1A1 tank I would say "PFM"

Pure (naughty word) magic

I don't even think ford knows how it works my guess they got a huge dart board with all the ford lightnings, VIN numbers and just throw it at it. Where the dart lands that's who gets the update.

Easy, turn auto updates off and let the dealership do it unless you have a problem. I had more problems show up after OTA in my Mach-e that it drove me nuts.
