I'm currently building a 2022 F150 Lariat, 6.5 box, with the Chrome Appearance package.

I like the idea of extending the running board given the fact I have an extended bed (6.5 box). However, the terminology of the build page on Ford's site is confusing me (yes, I realize the build page is still showing 2021 trucks). It seems like by default the Chrome Appearance package includes "Chrome Angular Step Bar", but I have the option of choosing "6" Extended Chrome Running Boards".

Is the step bar and running board the same thing? To add to the confusion, the website 3d visualization of the truck changes when I add the extended running board. See the images below. The Step Bar seems more slim, and then the entire board expands when you select the extended option.

Maybe someone has some pictures of their personal vehicle that would help.

Thank you!

From what I've seen prowling the lots, the difference is in the width of the bar. The bottom one is much wider, and to me a better design. The one time I test drove one with the small board I found myself kicking the rocker panel with my boot, leaving a mark. That's why I personally like tubular side steps, they stick out farther and little lower making it easier for a short sh*t like me to get in and out..

I have the ones in the bottom picture.
I like them, but I actually got them to make it easier on her.
I use them religiously getting in but only occasionally getting out.
I have a SuperCab with an 8’ box and I do wish these things extended past the cab just bit.
These new trucks are just so tall it takes an effort just to see what is back there let alone having access to whatever you want to pull out.

I have the 6” extended running boards and I like them as an upgrade to the standard. Maybe these pics will help.

Do you know if these can be extended after market? I'm forever climbing up on my wheel to reach those tools that have slid forward because some numpty cut in front of me and I had to slam on the anchors.....
