If you have a Tesla membership, you need to activate it in the Tesla app to get the membership pricing. If you don't have a Tesla membership (makes sense if you are going to use Tesla SuperChargers regularly), just plug it in and start charging.

Tim beat me to that part by seconds. :)

Just for giggles and grins, I looked at the current price per KWH at the 120 stall SC station in Barstow, CA - where I expect to charge at twice on Saturday. As I type this, Tesla membership price is $0.43 and non-member price is $0.56. Let me give you a real world example.

I am going to be driving somewhere around 425-450 miles on Saturday from home in Glendora, CA to a location 48 miles north of Baker, CA. Total distance each way is right about 200 miles and I will make a few detours both ways for some GeoCaching. There is a Tesla SC in Baker, but apparently is a V2 because it's not compatible with the Lightning. So I will leave home at 100% and expect to get to the Barstow SC at around 60-65%. So a quick top off to around 85% (depending on how fast the Del Taco across the street is for my breakfast). Then 110 miles to Med Base. Later in the day, return to either the Barstow SC or if I am overly low on charge, there is 50KW charging at Baker or another Tesla SC in Yermo (about 10 miles closer than Barstow). I'm guessing I will get back to Barstow with around 20 - 30%, so add some there. No point in charging more than 50% or so in Barstow as that will get me home with plenty to spare and once home I can charge cheaper than at a SC. And if that really is not enough there are at least a half dozen SC location along the route home from Barstow.

Now let me do the math. And I realize that the rates may be different at the hour that I am charging, but I'm going to use the current numbers. Lets say on the way north, I get 25% of a full charge (60 - 85%), that is 32.75KWH which would be $18.34 as a non-member or $14.08 as a Tesla member. On the way back home, let's say I also get 25% of a full charge (25 - 50%) which would be the same price as the first charge. That means I would pay $28.16 as a member or $36.68 as a non-member. That's a savings of $8.52 for the one day. That pays for about 2/3 of a monthly Tesla membership. Last Saturday was the last time I used a SuperCharger for 37KW with a savings of $4 or so (I did not look at the difference).

From my trip report from last weekend where I flailed around a lot before I figured out what was going on:

Without the discount
$12.99/$0.53/kWh = 24.51 kWh
24.51 kWh/2 mi/kWh = 11.6 miles
With the discount
$12.99/$0.41/kWh = 31.68 kWh
31.68 kWh/2 mi/kWh = 15.84 miles
The delta is $4.24. I can probably save that by running BlueCruise 1-2 mph lower and lose 2-3 minutes off each leg.

Now to extrapolate that through the 547 mile trip...
547 miles/2.0 miles/kWh = 1094 kWh
1094 kWh * $0.53/kWh = $579.82 without the discount
1094 kWh * $0.41/kWh = $448.54 with the discount
Delta = $131.28
Minus the $12.99 = $118.29 so yeah definitely worth it
As long as your savings is more than the cost of the Tesla subscription, it's worth the clicks.

You did your math backwards. Using your figure of 2.0 mi / KWH, the 24.51 KWH would be 49.02 miles.
I knew I'd booger something somewhere I caught the flu as a result of visiting houses with kids LOL
