No he's correct, the Tesla in space 1 is using the charger that a Ford would use. But I still wouldn't cone anything off. Someone may want to go ahead and park there and wait.

But I defer to @ddimit who's owned a Tesla for 9 years on what the etiquette seems to be at SC stations.
i edited to clarify what I meant...but ya, if ford guy walks away after coning that spot and then the tesla drives off, now you are blocking an open spot that a ford or other EV with similar port location could charge...there just isn't any reason to be trying to direct traffic or whatever, people can figure this out on their own until this problem sort of disappears eventually.

I personally wouldn't care but I own other EVs and follow what's going on in the EV world. A majority of Tesla owners are not as informed and show up see an empty spot and expect to charge . My thinking is the cone is more of a courtesy versus having someone back in and find out you are using the cable for that space.

I can see some Tesla drivers who would react wrongly, as they have never had to deal with this before and have had exclusive use. Tesa is really bad at messaging its owners, and I can see this will for wrong somewhere.

This seems like a simple fix that could have been avoided during initial design, since Tesla was building an expansive charger network it planned to eventually open to all EV manufacturers who adopted NACS.

Repaint the parking lines so the chargers are centered in each space and install longer (thicker) charge cables so every charger in the lot can be simultaneously in use irrespective of charge port location. Amiright?

What if Tesla was smart enough to understand this situation regarding the chargers AND the available spots... Knowing that the charger on the left is charging a Tesla, and the one on the right is charging something else... so both chargers are used -- then it would then inform not only what station is available, but what spot to park in if you are Tesla or other. So if the Tesla pulls away, then it would tell a Tesla to use that charger from space 1, or a Ford to use the charger from space 2, etc.
