That said, I bought a dongle on IndieGoGo a while back that lets me push anything I want to the display, including video streaming Apps like YouTube and Netflix. Technically, it makes the entire display an Android tablet, so I could even play games on the screen too, but so far, I only used it once just to test it out.

Dumb question:
is Indiegogo a brand or a place to buy things ?
if I was looking to buy that same streaming device to work on the Ford screen, is there a link to it you might have? ( and since I have an iPhone, will it work with that?)

thanks!

IndieGoGo is like Kickstarter. Basically manufacturers take pre-orders for products directly from customers and use the money from the pre-orders to pay for manufacturing them.

Once the pre-orders are done, sometimes they have enough momentum to prove the demand and get funding to build more to sell in retail outlets.

The upside is you sometimes get something really new at a great price. The downside is that you often wait quite a few months before the product ships and sometimes it never actually gets built. In this particular case, they did build and ship it after nearly a year, and now there are other companies with similar products.

So the biggest downside of a Kickstarter of IndieGoGo is you are technically not purchasing a product, so you are not guaranteed it will even be built. You're just supporting a startup by helping them get the money to make something. The "perk" is that if they do get built, you get one.

Here's where I got mine:
(Edited... somehow the link doesn't work... go to IndieGoGo and search for CarDongle.

An alternative is to get something just like it on Amazon where you can return it if it's not what you expected. I just searched for "CAR PC" on Amazon and found this:
