What is this?

This was on the floor in the rear of my truck when I took delivery. I know it’s something for trailering, but over two weeks later I have no idea exactly what it’s for. Some kind of yaw detector?

Ooohhh the sensor! I cannot for the life of me figure out why you would want to use this sensor if you can use the sticker? Even in dark and rain, my camera has found the sticker. The only time it has not was when the trailer plug cord was blocking part of the sticker.

My only guess is that some hitches do not have a flat surface to stick the sticker to.
