USING A SLIDE-IN CAMPER
For information regarding the use of slide-in campers, consult the Truck Camper Loading document supplied with your vehicle.
Note: We do not recommend using the slide-in camper on a F-150 Lightning.

This camper is not the typical heavy, solid, water carrying, toilet/shower, appliance equipped.

It weighs only 400lbs which is far less any slide in camper due to the canvas pop up.

With all their gear, they estimate 1000 lbs which is still under the maximum 1700lbs payload.

I am actually looking at this camper because in the past, I thought Lance slide in campers were the only game in town, but weighs over 1500lbs unladen.

I'm really curious how that "Truck Camper Loading" document will read. In the meantime, I did order a slide-in camper with a weight of 1180 lbs and I emailed the GM at my dealership to expand on why exactly they "do not recommend.." it. I saw on the video they talk about some slide in's that you have to screw into the bed, but the one I'm getting doesn't have that.

Excellent choice of slide in camper! You don't want to drill thru the bed due to the batteries and wiring, independent rear suspension, and motors.

Yours sound like it will be fine.

What is the weight after water is added to the tanks ?

Thank you. I’m really looking forward to using this camper. Total water on board will be about 80lbs. I calculated my dog and I with equipment and food will put us just below the maximum weight. I know my mileage will be cut in half, but I will be using this when I retire at the end of next year and won’t be in a rush for anything 😀

Looking forward to your report on how it does.

Depending on the aerodynamic styling of the slide in, it's hard to say how it will affect range.

I recall a YouTube video showing maximum payload of stacked lumber in the bed (not towing) and it decreased range slightly - not much.

Should be very interesting what you get on your slide in.

I wonder if this pop-up camper will affect the operation of Blue Cruise? It would be blocking any cab mounted cameras.

It will also be interesting to see how much this camper affects range. I wonder if it will drop to 1.5 Miles per KWh?

Compared to a traditional slide in camper, this pop up seems to be more aerodynamic because the over cab design is less height.

If they put on a wind fairing on the roof to move air over the pop up tent camper while it's down, I can see it might not affect range as much.

I am amazed that the pop up tent camper only weighs 400lbs unladen!

Knowing that bed payload has a different effect on range, I am seriously considering getting one.
The only issue is that it's more for fair weather use - not cold or snow due to lack of insulation...

The truck height goes from 77” empty to 92” with the camper. With the extra width that probably adds an extra 8 to 10 square feet of frontal area. Yes it is less than a traditional slide in camper but I bet it affects range significantly especially at highway speeds.

Where in Alaska can you go and charge? Looks like 6 DC chargers in all of state working.

DC charging still limited here. However, in addition to the existing 6 there are 6 more sites under construction with completion due this fall. Four are on the road between Fairbanks and Anchorage and the other two between the two cities and the Canadian border.

Change of plans, no Scout camper due to the reality of the aerodynamics. I shouldn’t have jumped the gun and put a deposit on it.

I saw the numbers of the TFL truck ALaska trip and realized I needed a pop up like you said. They got 1.7 KW and the aerodynamic will be the same with a slide in from Four Wheel Campers. I was actually there to take a peak at their Lightning this summer, since I commute past the Woodland factory.

Yesterday, I went and stopped by and asked if they could look at my Lariat to see if a slide in would work. Had four workers measuring and inspecting it for a Raven slide in. I will know in the near future if it gets a stamp of approval, but it’s looking really good. They said if it gets approved, I will be the first slide in camper with a Lightning. Took some pics of the floor model they had sold. Super anxious!

Will you be able to access the ProPower in the bed? That would be really awesome!

We talked about it briefly and they thought it might be an option. I definitely want it to work that way, or have access to it.
