My motorcycles don't run on electrons.
Mine does. If this is for a future when ICE vehicles are not being sold to control travel through electricity rationing and you have to make your own gasoline or diesel, you’ll be scaveninging to keep vehicles going? Seems scavenging for EVs would work too since that’s what the world will be using. Plenty of parts, and fewer moving parts for EVs.

I thought it was limited to 50kW which is roughly 200 mph charging which is not bad.
AC chargers are slower and they get SUPER HOT when you increase the power. The first time I charged at home with an AC charger configured with a 60 Amp circuit, which can give me about 37 miles per hour, my Mach-e sounded like it was an airplane about to take off. I had to step down the amp settings until a firmware update fixed it so the fans didn’t run at full RP…. But then again, it’s colder outside, so it’s possible the loud fans could still kick in next summer.

That said, DC charging bypasses the transformers entirely so they can push a lot more power without fear of overheating the transformers in the car.

The bottom line is that SuperChargers are SUPER FAST… because they use DC, so if the Mach-e in the original post is using a TeslaTap or similar AC adapter it’s kinda pointless because those adapters are still AC, basically turning the SuperCharger into a Destination Charger.

However, if they had a closeup of the connector, I would love to know if they managed to get their hands on the DC adapters that Tesla claims are on the horizon.

One of the best things about the F-150 Lightning is that the extended range batter actually charges FASTER than the standard range, because it basically charges the second battery independently at the same time.

I’m not sure if I’ll get that Extended Range battery. I think it’s pretty expensive and I’ve gotten used to having a 210 mile range. I charge at home and start each day with a LOT more power than I need for the Day. I’ve only needed a longer battery once on a long trip, but I found a DC fast charger along the way and had a nice snack while it charged back to about 80%.

they won't work at high speeds with other marques because they are optimized for Supercharging only with Tesla technology inside the cars. The landside chargers are the magic - Supercharging bypasses the chargers inside the car, even in a Tesla, and dumps power direct to the battery. No other EV is set up to handle this the way Tesla does it
Tesla uses the exact same Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) from the Battery Management System (BMS) to tell the EVSE (do I really need to spell this out or are we all good on what this means?) what level of current it wants. All DC charging is straight to the battery bypassing the onboard charger (OBC). I have tested many BEV vehicles, including Tesla, and they all follow the SAE (sorry, I forget the number right now) protocol on the amount of current to supply based on the PWM from the BMS. So what "magic" did I miss in my testing?

Good luck with that! This country has a 50-70 year old energy grid. People in major cities can't run air conditioners in summer. More fantasies from DC!

Wonder how many additional power stations are going to be needed to support widespread electric charging as envisaged by this plan. Electric cars still need fossil fuels to get charged, or hydro or atomic power.

Thank you for your FUD. The vast majority of EVs are charged during low-demand hours once or twice a week. We'll be ok, even without the grid balancing and demand management that V2G and smart EVSEs allow.

We can do it with wind, solar, and improvements to the transmission grid. It’s happening right now. Fastest and cheapest way to build out our grid capacity and electrify everything. Not just cars but heating, cooking, industrial processes. Ten years and we’ll be there. Exciting times! We’re finally using our amazing brains and technology to build something real, rather than just a brand new “better” social media app.

Good thing we are all cookie cutter people and all have the same likes! You must live in the city where people think they are the center of the universe.

In the last 10 years our population has increased by over 20 million people. Our Grid and power demand has barely been able to keep up with that growth alone, as realized with issues this year, in California and Texas. That does not include the introduction of EV’s at the rates suggest by our Government. I’m not drinking their Kool-aid and will plan to support my own energy requirements. I hope others can/will do the same.

Don't get that at my home charger which is L2 AC. The charger for AC is in the car.

The Chademo/CCS adapter being discussed (someone thought they were AC and said they charged at L2 levels) is DC and limited to 50kW due to the Chademo.

Absolutely, all rooftop solar here since 2014. I think you’re correct about the grid in its current state, but I’m sure we as a society will put a lot of effort into improving it over the next few years. We really need, and will achieve, both: a better grid *and* individual rooftop production. The two can go hand in hand, I hope. We’ll see!

Sorry folks... what "we want to be" and "what IS" hasn't merged yet.
Actually it probably has merged for 90% of usage. Problem with the F150EV is going to be supplying the huge demand. I'm sure Ford has a stat on how many buyers are coming from ICE F150's where the EV pickup can replace an ICE pickup.

And the timer we're on is measured in fires, hurricanes, floods, crop failures, fish kills, dead rivers and lakes, dead oceans, burned over forests not range and charging stations.

If our financial and drive situation can work with an EV, we have a duty to the social contract to make it work. Get our individual green house gas emissions reduced by 90% from our 2000 selves.

House - Solar powered 30% reduction to 0
Car - EV 30% reduction to 0
Boat - New engine 65% reduction from 2008 engine.

Only emissions I have now are the boat and already talking to the yard about going electric. Replacing the 68 gallon fuel tank with a 60 kWh battery and 150HP electric motor.

If you live in the mid Atlantic and upper midwest, electricity generation and distribution are not major concerns. With the demise of energy intensive heavy industry over the past 50 years, there is adequate electricity (and natural gas powered turbine generators) to power EV’s. Old nukes and coal fired units have been shut down with no possibility of starting back up.
I have no agenda for owning a Lightning other than I think it will be a good replacement for my old F150.

FUD? More like realism. COVID the economy, Biden's metal state.....All smoking mirrors.

That's Great!!

You deserve a pat on the back from us all. And I mean that sincerely!

I remember the days of changing my oil and dumping my old oil in the forest.
As much as I NOW KNOW that was a "bad" thing to do... the Forest is still there and thriving!

However...

My electrical grid supplier has me living through "rolling blackouts" and "public safety power shut downs".

I HAVE TO GET TO WORK!

I can't be waking up in the morning to find a dead battery in my Cybertruck ...I mean "Lightning" and calling my boss to tell him "I won't showing up for work today".

My home is powered by Geothermal and Wind. NIETHER are "ready" to replace fossil fuels. They will be someday... but I live in the "now"!

Plus... I'm already paying a $75.00 FINE every month for "going over my allotted power consumption.”

So I’m doing "my part”!
Albeit by FORCE!

BTW... I'M DYING to get an Electric Boat motor beyond my trolling motor! They're right around the corner... I'm sure. My electric weed eater KICKS ASS!!
