VIN#s are assigned WAY before a vehicle/parts/blending happens down the line, depending on parts available, issues with technology, or something that takes the vehicle 'off line' or out of sequence...

when you got your VIN# weeks ago, there was no real way to Guarantee that it will be right behind the prior VIN# and right before the next... humans are involved.
Yeah, but literally 'thousands' of digits between some of these numbers?

And there's no real reason for such large variations?

I mean I could understand it if all Platinums were in the 5000 range, and all Lariats in the 2000 range, or something like that.....but just a random number generator picking VINS?

some folks have already been moved 'up' in the production scheduling and rotation, so yes, it makes perfect sense.

VINs are assigned well before the vehicle is built. Actual build dates are based on component availability and other criteria. Their goal is to move builds through the assembly line as efficiently as possible, not to build them in exact VIN order.

Digit 4 refers to restraint class and should be '6' for all Lightnings. Digit 8 is for the drivetrain and should be 'V' for all Lightnings. I think there are errors in the VINs you have listed with 'V' and 'L.'
Digit 9 is a check-sum and is dependent on the entire unique VIN sequence.

Edit: As @TaxmanHog pointed out, Digit 4 should be "V" or "6" depending on GVWR. The difference appears to be Digit 8 should be "V" for ER batteries and "L" for SR batteries.

Thank you, I was hunting for that card.... so these codes are features of the vehicle and a validation check digit.

L in 8th position is for the SR battery pack, rare in our population, but possible.

Well I figured I should add my data, blend date is 05/07 287/447 and 8513. I'm still in disbelief that my truck is being built next week. 1FTVW1EV0NWG04117

They seem to be running about 5-7 days behind of blend date so you may not actually see movement until the following week. Please keep us updated, though-every retail build merits celebration!

I had a window sticker change, still the same Blend Date 5/08 but now that old number of 391/447 has changed to 125/194. Interesting. Anyone else have a changed? Been moved up or moved back?

That's interesting. I've seen throughout the site where there are on some weeks 2 different build totals. One is 447 and the other is 194. I haven't been able to explain it. I had a theory that maybe consumer build are the 447 and business builds as the other 194, but that might not be true now. Taxmanhog and I have a spreadsheet with all the VINs on the forum and the ones we found on Autotrader, and we can see the 2 different build totals within the same build week in the tracking.

Could it be associated with color or options(bed liner)? Maybe the region its headed to. I do notice that my first Window Sticker had MI and now it is correct with CA

Old Window Sticker from Left to Right(top): Rev-014439 MI 7-MEMO(9),NB, 114439, nd211, 16833, (Blend Date the Same),8617, CERT-ULC, TRD-U, RAMP-R, BUMP-MI, CAMP-C, 005564 391/447, NWG03952

Ramp One: CC59

New Window Sticker: REV-001347 CA 4-REBILL, NB, 001347, ND223,20405,(Blend Date the Same), 8617, RAMP-R, 005610 125/194, NWG03952

Ramp One: CA5A

I was worried at first about heading to 59...😓

When I get done consolidating all the analytics, maybe I'll be able to make a determination as to what it means. Right now though, I have no idea. We just consolidated the spreadsheet with more than 300 different vins and tomorrow I'm going to get started on doing the analytics.

Of course I had to look at my window sticker for the 1000th time and nothing changed. Mine still heading to CA and 287/447 and 05/07 blend. I did not order bed liner.

I can confirm that the "L" in the eighth position is the SR battery.

My VIN: 1FTVW1ELXNWG05xxx is for an XLT SR with both towing options.

Consequently I get a "V" in the 4th position (GVWR of 8001 to 9000 pounds) (I'm hoping I get an 8,400 pound GVWR). Both ER's and SR's without Max Tow would also get a "V" in the 4th position.

A "6" in this spot must be for ER trucks with Max Tow and therefore a GVWR of 8550 pounds.

I have an "L" in the eighth spot which is the SR battery. Looks like that is maybe 15% of the VIN's out there.
