Just did a sanity check on the pricing and availability of Lightings nationwide.

My 23 Lariat ER is supposed to be at my dealership at the end of the month and I wanted to see what would be available and at what price. My vehicle specs out to cost $88,924. Taking into consideration of the $8500 Ford LIGHTNING CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PRIVATE OFFER and the monies I put down to order ($1500), and adding back in dealer fees, that puts me at $79,374, which gives me the $7500 EV tax credit, which makes my pretax, pretrade cost at $71,874. So my logic is could I buy a comparably equipped 22-23 Lariat for close to that price on the market.

What I'm finding:

• About 500 of all makes available for sale, larger percentage used vs. new
• Majority are Standard Battery
• Majority are over-priced, considering.

There are a couple reasonable deals to be had, but nothing that would make me not purchase my incoming. What I'm surprised is how many used are available. Wondering if these were salable mannequins as there are majority between 2000 and 5000 miles. Or is the market slowing as I do not want a vehicle paying MSRP that tanks in value in 6 months.

Thoughts?

Sorry, but your Lariat ER will not qualify for the tax rebate. It is based on the MSRP less the $1895 destination charges, not what you "paid". The PCO does not count either. LOTS of threads about this already.

Thanks for the correction.

I just turned down delivery of my Lariat order. I gave up my small deposit, but with the tax changes since I ordered I could not justify going through with the purchase especially when $7500 will purchase quite a bit of fuel. Unfortunately, it was build in late November and then identified last December for delivery. However, it kept changing until it fell into mid January. If it had landed in December I would have taken ownership.

Additionally, I am starting to see more Lariat models around 85-87K sitting on dealer lots for MSRP it would seem the value will have to fall at some point (almost every dealership within 100 miles has at least one posted now).

A lot of flippers or people who ordered hoping to make some money and then the market turned….. kind of like what’s happening over at Tesla. No surprise.

There are only a handful of cars immune to depreciation. The Lightning is worth $39-65k on the used market depending on mileage, these are the quotes I’ve been getting from dealers lol…..

2022 Lightning Lariat ER Rapid Red
I was in the same boat. I ended up finding a new 2022 Lariat ER with all the features that got removed on my order on the lot for MSRP, no adm at all.

My order that was dragged through the mud due to Ford's inefficient ordering process, more-so about communication Ford has with its dealers.

I believe my dealer was very good, just lack of info from Ford in regards to how the order sheet should be updated as items were removed, ie. smart hitch and onboard scales.

My order was pushed to 2023 and it finally arrived early January. I considered the PCO, but never assumed I was eligible for the $7500. I found it was not worth the time, effort or headache to try and make maybe $7k after taxes. People prefer buying an expensive truck from a dealer, it puts their mind at ease.

I turned down delivery and was refunded $500 a week later.

So are you going to see how the market shakes out and purchasing later or you did buy the 2022?

It's funny because I've been following the Tesla pricing and it seems to be they recognize in order to keep selling at the clip they have been and due to increased manufacturing efficiency, that they sniffed market fatigued decided to be proactive and pass the savings on early. Not sure if I believe all of that but I always felt they were overpriced and never 'originally' intended to be considered a luxury vehicle, but here they are...Tesla brand with Honda build capabilities....and now pricing.....lol

First, ask the dealer to refund your reservation fee and order deposit. If they say no, you may want to check with someone in the state attorney-general's office on whether vehicle order deposits are refundable in your state.

Thanks - I have had some discussions but it might be challenging here in Ohio. My one out might be the fact that it was not to order? (missing the heated steering wheel)
