I ordered some black 3M wrap. I’ll try it myself it was only a $15 investment. I’ll report how it turns out.
That sounds better than $150 for a dealer to do it. Very interested to see your results.

I guess the next question is if they are the same form factor and can be swapped out. I think these are the right parts if someone can also confirm. Here's the parts for the black cap versus the chrome cap, but no pictures of the chrome cap.

For $50 that’s probably the way to go vs wrapping and dealing with damage over time. Everyone gets points for buying a truck, can these be used for these parts?

My dealer didn't specifically mention which parts, but did say there was a delay of 30+ days to get them in. If that's the case then I could probably go with that for free with the 42k points. I should pick up the truck this week sometime, I will ask when I go in about using the points and what the part numbers are.

You’re right. I’m trying to wrap first since it was so cheap and seems pretty easy to do. If it doesn’t turn out good or comes off I’ll upgrade to the caps. I’m also curious how well those caps stay on.

Dealer confirmed that those first two links are universal for both powered and non-powered tow mirrors. Part numbers are 17D742 and 17D743. They are ordering mine and will be using the points from the truck purchase to pay for them.

Will those skull caps only work for the tow mirrors? I have the standard on my Platinum and would love to get rid of the chrome.

Yes, these parts are specific to the tow mirrors, but there may be similar options for standard mirrors.

I have the black caps in hand now, but I’m actually starting to like the one chrome accent on the truck versus going all black. Going to sit on it for another few days, but I may return them.

So this was unexpected and takes some getting used to, but the chrome cap on the passenger side keeps screwing with me! It acts as another mirror and I keep seeing headlights in it but they are from cars in the oncoming lane. I'm going to have to develop senses to ignore that but it sure is distracting!

Those with the black caps will never have to experience this so don't worry about it :)

I swapped mine out. My local Ford dealer had the black ones in stock. There is a YouTube video out there that I followed. Its the same part and procedure of an F250.
The Ford part number for the "black" ones are part number HC3Z-17D742-AA. and HC3Z-17D743-AA

Here is the video, its not the best but you should be able to get the idea. Unfortunately the bottom middle tab gets broke but the procedure for taking the cap off the Ford way is lengthy and requires removing the glass and potential to break lots of other expensive plastic and glass parts. I decided sacrificing the 1 bottom plastic tab on the ones I was removing was worth it.

The chrome caps came off completely or did the black ones just snap over them?

was it fairly easy?
The chrome ones came off completely, the dealer did it for me. I have them sitting in a box, so I don’t know if the tabs are still in tact. I’ll check later today.
