3D Printing Fun

So I am an engineer, and I love engineering stuff. Since I got my lightning in March, I have done some projects to combine my love for engineering with my love for my truck. Anyway, I have posted about some of them in other threads, but thought it might be fun to start a thread focused on 3D printing, customized mods, etc. I will start putting uploading some of my models to thingiverse for sharing. It may take me awhile to get caught up to all I have done, but I will start populating my projects here. I am interested if anyone else has done anything fun to their trucks!

I will start with something I did quickly today. My daughter thought I should make a lightning keychain (more like a charm to hang from the rearview mirror). I don’t know if I’ll hang it from the mirror or make it the new mail key chain, but anyway I designed a front view of the lightning for a keychain. Was fairly quick to design, and printed super easily.

Certainly happy to take requests. This is fun for me after all. I will note a couple caveats. One, my printer bed is fairly small (6” x 6” x 6”) so the design will have to fit within it or something that can be designed with some reasonable assembly in mind. Two, it would be something that I could test on my truck (if it is some sort of mod for it), which I have an XLT ER, so if it is something that only exists in the higher trim levels, it may be hard for me to measure and prototype (you should see my trash when iterating through prototypes). Finally, I am no mechanical design expert (I am actually an EE, but mostly just a programmer nowadays) so my design skills are limited, as it’s just a hobby. That said, I love the idea of taking requests, as it will give me more fun projects to work on!
I will slowly be transferring some of my other projects here once I get the files uploaded to thingiverse so that I can share them. However, if you’d like to see some of the other things I have done, you can check my post history. My latest hasn’t posted yet (it’s a MagSafe charging pad that sits in the XLT cubby under the screen), but that should give you a good idea of my (limited) capabilities.

And as for payment, I would only care about material and shipping costs (or you could ask someone to print it for you if you have access to a friend with a 3D printer).

How about a front license plate w lightning logo (for trucks that don’t require a State license on the front)
I’m thinking of a blank sheet with a Lightning bolt in the center.

Blank sheet in black (or the truck color - Red in my case). Lightning bolt logo in Blue.

This is a fun coincidence. I recently picked up a used Prusa Mini+ to dip my toes into 3d printing. I have designed a few small parts for use around the house but nothing major. I am still working on dialing in my 3d printer and I have some larger items on my to do list.

I’ll have to look at my truck to see what you mean. I never noticed this. I know as an XLT owner I have far less speakers, so I may not even have one there.
