This is an FYI. I did a little testing of the tailgate and if you have a carrier or anything that comes close to the back of your tailgate the tailgate comes down with a large amount of power and does not stop when restricted. I have a motorcycle carrier that comes out of my hitch. The bike gets pretty close to the tailgate and if you accidentally hit that tailgate button two times it has the power to either destroy the tailgate and destroy the bike. I was surprised when I attempted to restrict the tailgate to see if it stopped if it came in contact with something and it did not. This was a safety on Garage Doors at least the last 30 years. Surprised there isnā€™t some form of safety on the tailgate opening. I didnā€™t hurt my truck, but it became a thought. Damaged through tailgate by opening it too close to something

I believe you can turn off power tailgate from within main panel settings while in the truck. My first week of ownership btw mine bumped my garage door when I occidentally opened tailgateā€¦luckily no damage that a microfiber cloth wasnā€™t able to buff out. My garage and truck are a very tight fit.
Look in your settings to disable this feature when your motorcycle carrier is attached.

I had a friend stand behind him and my tailgate basically pushed him out of the way. It could just be an issue with my tailgate, but I forgot to let people know. if you donā€™t use a hitch rack or a motorcycle rack that comes off your hitch itā€™s not gonna be an issue for most people, but I thought it was pretty interesting. Iā€™ll do some more testing and let you know.

The tailgate is also counterbalanced with a spring so it doesn't feel so heavy. You should be able to stop it with minor resistance. If you have the full weight of the tailgate, perhaps your spring is not set or attached correctly. Mine feels pretty light compared to my older trucks without the counterbalance spring.

It's not a spring. It's a torsion bar.

While your second sentence is correct, a torsion bar IS a spring and works on the same physics principles as a coiled spring (twisting of the bar whether coiled or straight.).

I had an experience with the tailgate dropping like a rock on me. I went to get something out of the bed once. I'm guessing the truck was locked and I didn't have a key. Usually the truck will do nothing or just beep at me. This time the "alarm" went off and the tailgate just dropped and about knocked me over. What ever "spring" is in there must be incorporated into the lift motor. I was kinda pissed but, this truck does do some weird things sometimes. Gotta take the good with the bad. Why the lights and horn went off and the tailgate even opened caught me off guard.
