If you live where it's cold (32F/0C is not cold...) plugging in and preconditioning are needed. I have seen a "Red" battery once at -35 unplugged, I don't recommend this.
If you drive more then 50% of your battery in one shot, preconditioning is needed.
Just simply plugging in at -35 keeps...
Bit of an update with a few more miles on Flash, did my normal 185 mile run tonight with it and came up short - limped to 1st DC charger in range (50kw) with 4% /9 miles range - about 15 miles short of home. The last 60 miles I had 40% left so figured I was golden and skipped Tesla chargers -...

Trucks in driveway so decided to go play. So new toy the 23s don’t have, got in Flash it shows pulling 2.3kw on dash and I can hear a low level hum - assume that’s just keeping battery warm.
Started truck (still plugged in) and it shows 30 amp 7.0 kw charging - being it’s on mobile charger at...
I’m leaning this way, if the heat pump fans randomly kick on while truck is parked to heat battery in middle of night people would freak out. Keeping the original coolant loop heater that takes over when plugged in would be a smart solution as “efficiency” on grid power is moot.
It does pull more TaxmanHog had some charts showing believe upto 18 kw simultaneously needed during conditioning cycle. At very cold we see exactly what you are seeing set at 100% and after preconditioning at 98% battery. That truck is on a 40 amp/9kw charger. As well the early % drop which I...
At 30 miles you can get by on the L1, particularly if there is a free L2 somewhere you frequent at work/mall/park.
That said a L2 is definitely worth getting. If you have panel space wire between 40 and 60 amp circuit, go as big as your panel allows - material is cheap - labour is expensive...
First night on the road with our 24 Flash - I generally do highway runs with our 23 Lariat but wife has that and the usual 2nd choice XLT is at dealer for recall - so getting my first real impression of Heat Pump vs Resistive in negative temperatures.
Pros: it works, no noticeable difference in...
The FCSP is keeping your battery warm"ish", the 120 can charge cold but doesnt have the oomph to also keep battery warm.
Even without departure the FCSP will keep your pack at some "ideal" storage temp - so when you start driving getting to operating temp isnt a huge draw. If you use Departure...
We've probably bought our last "new" Lightning - finally seeing some 23s hit used market. I can get a 23 XLT ER with 20k miles for less than a 24/25 Pro SR - that's a no brainer upgrade.
Late model 23 Lariat would not scare me at all with 20k, if it does buy a Granger warranty in two years if...
This is why I tell people these trucks are for people who like math - I've "Hyper-miled" quite a few times where its been a strong headwind or I know I'm pushing range - drop it down to 50 and mileage almost doubles from 75.
If we all drove 50 the trucks would get 400 miles a charge lol.
Had no issues likely 100+ charges and very few times would actually be the same charger in a location. That error rate I would suggest an adaptor issue - assuming you have no issues at DC CCS chargers.
We manage just fine and continue to increase our fleet of Lightnings. It doesn’t get much worse cold wise than central Canada.
All the trucks sit outside, one has a dedicated 9kw, two split a Duo at 4.5KW each, ones on a 120. Coming from a world of Diesels my rule is we plug everything in...
It should come to dealer as a unit on my ICE F150 it was 4 Alan key bolts - I’d have to look at ours in daylight but not a big deal as others said it’s not really a glass repair more a body panel replacement.
We have no issue using the 40 amp Grizz Smart keeping trucks doing 200 miles a day happy. We get 9 kw from them the extra 2 amps going to 48 aren't missed.
I havent used the Emporia chargers however others here swear by them as well - best reporting functionality
What I like about plugged is...
Unless you really need the 48 amps stick with the 40 amp chargers - 48/60s need to be hardwired - mention hardwiring and EV charger to an Electrician and that’s like blood in the water for a shark. A lot of jurisdictions have extra hoops/code/permit requirements for “EV Chargers” that just...
Snow they are just fine, have Dyna’s and Grabbers - on Ice Dyna’s < Grabbers no siping on them for Ice traction.
The AWD does a phenomenal job in snow regardless of tire quality - the ABS has its work cut out for it on ICE with stock tires
