Pretty sure I am rail, based on the ramp code being in Wentzville, MO and that being a major train depot. Same place my Mach-E went through at one point.. they truck it from there (like 40~ miles) to my dealer. I remember that Wentzville train depot being slow too last year.. car sat there for a week before getting on a convoy.

I talked to ford chat today and it didn't appear I had any kind of rail-car number yet. Just says released to carrier.. so I am super early in the process. The person today was less helpful than normal; I usually get a little more info out of them. I'll bug them again on Monday.
i Can handle the transport delays, it’s been the lack of useful up to date info from ford.

yesterday I did chat. I asked what ramp location. I got back “Dearborn mi’
well duh, of course.

I've got a campsite with 50amp and 30amp capability. Our camper is plugged into the 50 amp, we have an adapter (purchased for the camper) to go from 50a to 30a. Other than slower charging(plan on leaving to charge overnight), will there be any issues charging on the 30a with my 50a to 30a adapter?

Second question, I could swap my camper to the 30a with the adapter, would there be any issues plugging directly into the 50a to charge? This is less likely to happen but in a pinch where I need more range at a quicker rate, I just wanted to know my options.

I feel like either option should work fine, but just wanted to check just in case and make sure.

Thanks in advance, provided pics of the 50/30a charging and adapter I have.

I'm no expert so take my advice as advice from a noob.

Plugging your mobile charger directly into the 50 amp should be no problem at all and no adaptors required there. It's the same plug - I've seen folks do this already.

For the 30 amp plug situation, there are some complications with it and with the ford mobile charger itself. TL;DR you shouldn't use the ford mobile charger, even with a good adaptor, on a 30 amp circuit because it can over heat it. It's not smart enough to self derate and it'll probably trip the campground breaker. You would need a 24 amp EVSE with you to do a 30 amp pedestal at a campground.

To plug a mobile 24 amp EVSE into the 30 amp plug at the campground, like you said, you'll need an adaptor however.. there are special adaptors out there for EVs and the recommendation I have heard is not to use the same kind of adaptor you use for your RV as for your EV. They are somehow wired differently inside. Here is an example:

@Griddlez very helpful, sounds like when I need to charge it may actually be easier to just swap the camper to the 30a with the adapter and charge using the 50a. I had no idea about the adapters being different for the camper and EV charging. I'll go ahead and get me an EV 30a to 50a adapter to have as a backup. Also good to know about the Ford mobile charger and 30a.

Thanks again!

Great to know…thx! Interesting reading the negative reviews….those people were trying to use it for a RV connection and obviously didn’t read the product description very closely.

Now I’m really curious….how is the adapter’s wiring configured differently from the RVversion of this adapter?

Yea I'm not sure either but that one isn't the only brand saying to use a specific kind for EV only and not your RV. There's something going on there as several other brands say the same thing. May have something to do with the neutral but I am no electrician so I'll stop guessing lol.

Ahh here -- Home depot actually carries these in their online store.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/parkwor...5Y22MD4mPrX-aGWArZhoCU5sQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

It says...

  • Caution: this adapter is only intended for electric car charging and therefore does not have a neutral connection it is not configured for RV use
It even talks about only charging at 24 amp across the cable right under that ^ bullet point. Which the ford mobile charger doesn't have any way to do (that I know of). Hence the need of a different EVSE for 24 amps or some other amp limiting solution.

The CAMCO version of this adapter should work as it will carry 30A per their product description and a little table napkin math….

“Rated for 125 volts, 3750 watts and constructed with 100% copper, 10/3-gauge wires for superior conductivity.”
Amp = Watts/Volts: 3750W/125V = 30A

The Lightning’s manual says the mobile charger is rated up to 32A, but I remember reading somewhere nthe device itself is rated at 30A max.

Awesome, indeed it is!

For mine - I checked in w/ Ford Chat today and they still show the last location as ramp 58 (Melvindale, MI) but in transit. No railcar number to provide which is odd if it's really in transit. Sat there at ramp 58 since the 5th.. may still be there and they just marked it in transit. /shrug Whatever I shouldn't whine yet until my ETA is gone I guess (but I will anyway lol). ETA window starts tomorrow! 19th-25th. Let's see what happens.

Good luck! Next time you might try the Ford Marketing dept: 800-334-4375

They were much nicer than the chat.

It didn't mention lightning as an option to choose, so I went with F Series, so maybe that means it was the general marketing number. Either way the girl that answered didn't seem to care that I was calling about a lightning.
