Just finished the tailgate dampener. Posted on the FB forum last week at $17.99. What the heck for that cost, Cheaper and easier than the ford OEM that needs to be painted…and easily put back to stock. Thanks to who posted this on FB. Less than 30 mins alone. Be sure to realign the lower hinge and mark the location with something before you loosen the bolts, put it back in the same spot, tricky with one person, also remove the bottle opener and finally upgraded the China M8 bolt to stainless for $1.59 at Ace.

just get the oem damper. It usually $80-90 and requires installation behind the right taillight.

The OE tailgate dampener mounts in the pocket behind the right tailgate light assembly and replaces the right hinge receiver only. The other mount point is already there in all trims. After install, the only thing you can ever see is the hinge receiver, which is only visible with the tailgate open. The dampener discussed above is the older style dampener that is exposed.

Before I go tearing into the taillight assembly to find out for myself, does anyone know of the OEM damper is compatible with the power tailgate?

The one OP shared is nice, but I too would like to keep it clean with the tie downs and bottle opener.

Best $18.00 you can spend. Turns your tailgate into a soft close toilet seat. Yes you need to remove the tie down but in 30 seconds the 2 screws can be removed and the tie down can be installed . Remember to use the tie down the tailgate needs to be down anyways.. so therefore there would be no interference. Once done with your hauling , tie down load, another 30 seconds, it can be removed. So no big deal.

1 word of advice, use the included locktite to also glue the threaded strut rod to the heim joint threaded connection. Mine loosened up and unscrewed 2 months later.

The dampers are for non-powered tailgates only.

Yes. You can also buy from Ford or other dealers online. I typically buy through tasca which is slightly cheaper, but will take longer to get delivered.
