Long story, but I actually unscrewed myself from my early on mistake!Looking into trading my 3 month old Lightning Pro 55k msrp with factory , 9.6 pro power, tow package. Bed liner , tailgate steps. Added aftermarket electric tonneau cover, 4 separate steps, front view camera w monitor.
Not selling it because I don't like it, trading up because I love it. Looking to get a 23 Larient or Platinum for a good deal.
Problem Is the dealer claims my pro is only worth 35-38k. For a 3 month old 2400 mile spotless truck with an additional 2k worth of extras. Sure I can remove the tonneau cover and reuse it on the new lightning. But is the dealer screwing me on the pricing or do they drop that quick. I'm into it for 50k with tax and license. Plus 2k of aftermarket.
Anything under 80k msrp is still eligible for the 7500 Federal tax credit. So a Platinum is not eligible even if they discount the price below 80k as it's based on the msrp.
Love the truck, just thinking of more bells and whistles. But don't want to take a bath.

About 20 months ago (December 22) I purchased a 22 Lariat SR for MSRP $72.4K plus $2.2 ADM, so after sales tax, fees and other BS, I was at just over $82K… with $16K down, that left me with $76K finance… (4.9%) but I knew this and signed on the line anyway. I was caught up in all the hype and at that time, the facts about the vehicle and it’s capabilities were ambiguous at best… sales dude basically told me that I would get 240 miles between charges… well, just not true, but was a remarkable sales bs story! In fact, I could only get 170 miles in between charges at best with my style of driving. I got the $7.5 fed credit and another $2K CA state back, so my OTD price was $72.5 adjusted.
So after a couple of months and only 1,400 miles, I knew that wanted to upgrade it to a Lariat ER, cause other than the shorter than expected mileage between charging, I loved the pickup!
The selling dealer did not see me again, so I went to another dealer to discuss a trade. At that time, their very best offer was $56K… I nearly puked on his desk! Mind you, I was wanting to trade it too…
I figured that was too much of a bath to take, therefore, I un-respectfully declined.
Months later, Ford dropped the pricing and offered incentives and the dealers were not getting the ADM’s that they were several months prior.
I ordered a 23 Lariat just as I wanted, on Ford.com for just under $80K and waited for months for it to be built. Now, during that period, prices were dropping and for some reason, my brain thought that my trade would only be a couple more $K’s less from before… with mileage under 5K, but approaching the 1 year of ownership. So after all that, I decided to try being a little more savvy with the dealer and ended up telling them to shove it! (But really wanted the 23 ER!). After a few weeks we hammered out a deal that I could live with… the dealer rekindled a trade offer at $46K trade and we settled at $49K. I also got them to discount the 23 $8.5K with a (1.9%) finance rate… and I was still able to get another $7.5K from CA state… so my new 23 ER with several little options actually ended up costing me the same as the 22 SR did and would have over time with that original financing rate, etc…
BTW, up until I traded, I tried selling the 22 myself , but nobody was seriously making offered. The dealer sold the 22 after sitting on it for 5 months… only 5K miles and got $53K, so really did make much of a profit.
My advice to you is, if you really want to upgrade, go for it, but you’ll need to find a way to make it not hurt so much… at least try hard to get closer to equilibrium!
